As many of you already know we have been working on implementing Nvidia's 'Turf Effects' into Unity and PG specifically. As no one has yet done this in Unity we have been working closely with Nvidia to create a plugin which integrates the TE technology into our CourseForge meshes. As you can imagine with new technology it's not been an easy path to walk but we are starting to see the fruits of our labor.

I thought I'd share a couple of early pictures of Turf Effects in action. There are bunch of things still do do such as improving the grass lighting, draw distance and LOD culling and incorporating it onto our transition mesh blends but even at this early stage we thought it would be a good time to share something with the community.

It's marginal as it's a DX 11 onwards only feature so the GPU will take care of the extra rendering. I didn't lose more than 2 FPS from my normal frame rate during initial testing.

My main worry is that what we gain in close-up with 3D grass we will lose in the lack of subtle changes that 2D textures can bring to create a realistic feel to the courses.

Yes sir!

Dumping the old DirectX support and moving on has serious benefits!

Both consoles are on either DX12 or a modified version of DX. Not as sure about PS4, but both Xbox One and PS4 have nearly identical GPU's, so this should not be a problem.

These are the kinds of things that make the wait worthwhile.....got a bit more time to wait until it is released, but it looks PHENOMENAL so far!

Re:  Consoles

Not only should it work on consoles, but I'd argue that graphical improvements like 3D grass are basically prerequisites to a successful release on a console.  The console crowd is used to great visuals, so the more the better (especially when it's not hitting FPS hardly at all)

I can't get over how AWESOME those screenshots are....

I think I might have just popped a woody.

That looks... incredible!!  This plus mocapped animations will push JNPG into a place I'm not sure I ever imagined it could be so congrats to the dev team for the vision!  Excellent!
