I have been doing some reading on a few different terrain impprters, some much more involved than others, but wondering how this is coming along. Any idea to what other plug ins compare to Terrain Forge? Any info at all would be appreciated.

I guess it depends what type of terrain data you are looking to import.

LIDAR requires certain software (which Terrain Forge is one) but not sure there are any 'free' tools out there.

A little frustrating so far for me as I am trying to do an APCD import, but it's not accepting my .crz files.

I have yet to try a bing import but that's the next item on my agenda.

For real courses that are fully georeferenced you are looking at several hundred dollar applications like Global Mapper to do what Terrain Forge Does

Can anyone tell me where you can get such data. Really would be fun to recreate real courses.

I found I can download LIDAR data from Earth Explorer for free. There is a tool call QGIS with LASTools add in that can create different maps but so far I have been unable to get one they way I what it. From what I have seen of Terrain Forge it should be much easier than what I am trying to do. Is TF scheduled to release with CF?

Maybe you could help out  some of the other designers that are having problems figuring  it out..

Myself and an OGT user called pgapro have been experimenting with worldbuilder (to create terrains from bing maps, similar to TF) and another plugin called terrain manager (to increase heightmap resolution) and have had some success.

Garynorman is trying out my Belfry terrain (no LIDAR available) to create Brabazon, and pgapro so far has 20+ of these terrains that will soon be available, as unity packages ready to import into unity by any CF designer

Bing Maps is rubbish for a decent heightmap, tried your Brabazon data and as an example the lake in front of the 18th green is higher than the green, I used the Bing Maps and TF data for my creation of The Belfry.

Data quality usually depends on the location. I know Google maps data for the UK was barely usable, being 90m data, but a lot of the US data was far better, at 10m or even some at 3m. I would guess that Bing maps data could be the same.

Yeah unfortunately it's always only gonna be as the data available

Sounds like TF and worldbuilder are both gonna suffer the same problems if both using same data source.

I thought the belfry height data was 11metre, which is agree is a bit on the large side, but may well be the best we will be able to get
