Just realized I hadn't popped in here much

My Uncle and I have officially moved on to EA 2023 just recently.

He's really getting up there in age/capabilities so it's been a challenge to adapt to something new

Ultimately, the game play really isn't the same (or as good in my view) as PG, however the graphics are spectacular and he's LOVING that aspect of things.

I figured -- what the hell -- he's nearly 87, let's give one more new golf game a try, regardless of what I think of the gameplay.

Our evening rounds are about socialization mainly anyhow, and after over 30 years of doing this, we are finally on some graphics that are just breathtaking at times.

(and honestly, even EA PGA isn't using the most capable of possible graphics engines these days -- just imagine what might still come!)

I actually think it has reinvigorated things to be playing a new game again for the first time since we were vacillating between TGC2 and PG

Anyhow - as forums and users go, we all fade away

Before I leave though, I really wanted to thank everyone here for all the great banter over the years and...

THANK YOU COURSE DESIGNERS!

We all got a bit short changed and blindsided by the Trackman sale and PG really never grew into what it could have been, very sadly.

That said, PG remains an all timer, but very niche, software title -- and it's really all and only due to the amazing third party course design work!

Cheers all - I'll see you at the 19th hole!

Buck - good stuff.. enjoy what makes you and uncle happy.    I could not get into the "Tiger Woods" style of play, never have and even with this new EA title..  but I digress.   I just recently got into course design and although my courses are not the greatest, that is not the point.. I am enjoying just fiddling around with Course Forge and making courses for my brother and I to play...

In any event.. cheers!

There are no winners out of all this Buck...except for GS Pro, some of the guys here who got jobs, Trackman, PP...   Thanks for your community input over the years.

Yep - everyone won other than those of us still around -

I should add, that after a week of EA PGA, I wont' be surprised if we gravitate back to PG after the shine wears off.

PG still plays the better rounds of PC golf for my money.

EA not having a mouse swing further cements PGs "legend" status with RTS-M also

The EA game has a feel like "it is playing YOU" vs you playing the game.

So much seems to happen that doesn't make sense based upon your exact inputs on a given swing/situation.

It's hard to describe.  They seem to have a lot of "something" going on in the background.

It's driving my uncle insane that they don't have an on screen all the time overhead map option (you have to toggle to a separate full screen map)

We are back

Didn't make it as long as we thought

We both just vastly prefer the gameplay experience of PG, despite admitting the visuals are way better on the EA game

I thought about it -- him 10 years ago would have had a chance

Now, he'd honestly be dangerous and lose his balance and get massively confused with the interface, etc

It's "a lot" just to have him successfully use a modern game controller consistently as it is

Well we aren't supposed to say "scripted" but I"ll say it feels "hinky".
I know that just like in real life some days you play better than other but the EA game just seems overboard sometimes.
It really is hard to pin down or prove.
With this game every outcome is from your input combined with a bit of luck as far as the wind switching in mid air.The game itself doesn't determine the outcome.
With the EA game it feels like the game itself has an outcome in mind.I sololy play the career mode-maybe it's different head to head.
I actually noticed this effect playing the Tiger Woods games and I see it also in the MLB series. Some people attribute it to RNG but I think that's just part of what's going on."Leveling up" and adding "specs" justs add a layer of artificality to many games.I believe the younger generation is just so used to games being this way that a real skilled based game like Perfect Golf would seem very foreign to them.
That all being said I am enjoying the career mode although if they don't add more courses that will get stale eventually.

your right jt83,i feel like a winner everyday.i was able to get a job at trackman 3 years ago and have released 18 courses for the simulator to date.i will allways be greatful to this game  and mike j and andrew j. for coming out with the best  golf game ever produced. and never thought i would have a chance to build  world class golf courses for trackman.the jones boys got a lot of grief on here for abandoning  PG as an unfinished game. the truth is not that simple.they rode it to the end of the line.PG  was an unsuccessful game.they simply ran out of money to procede to the next version.and had to make a decesion, and looking at it from there perspective.they made the right decision.

i will always be grateful to this game  and mike j and andrew j. for coming out with the best  golf game ever produced.

Ditto here...PG was letting us design our home courses with lidar long before the other golf games starting figuring out how to use lidar. Jack Nicklaus was impressed enough to put his name on it, and the best ball physics I've experienced.

So, 18 courses, huh? I guessing you've picked up a few new tricks over the years to blow us away on another PG course...(hint...hint) :D

That's super frustrating, especially as time goes on and the gap between PG1 and the TM PG2+ widens

How could making courses for PG1 possibly be any sort of threat or worry to TM whatsoever?

I wonder if they'd ever relent on that in the future?

PG1 has been abandoned for like a full 5+ years now -- I'm amazed they would even care!

Okay, now I'm definitely going to be strutting around here like a peacock...lol  Thanks for the compliment, you made my day.  :D

Yeah, I figured there might be a NDA, which is understandable.  -_-

The fact of the matter is, Mike asked for suggestions relating to a new version of Perfect Golf knowing full well that a new version was never in the pipeline.
If Perfect Golf did run out of money the Jones brothers should have explained the situation to their loyal users and, I’m sure most would have understood but they didn’t. There was no explanation, they just buggered off leaving Perfect Golf players without any answers to their questions.
I, for one, still feel quite bitter about some of the comments Mike made to me after I suggested to him that he wasn’t being straight with us. I was banned twice from this forum for my views, yet I turned out to be correct.

I’ve not played PG in a few years preferring to dabble in course design using PGA 2K23, which looks and plays very nicely.

I bought EA’s golf game cheaply and wish I hadn’t. It looks ok but I’ve yet to discover how to hit a crooked shot. It’s whole swing control system is very poorly designed and doesn’t make make want to return to playing it anytime soon.

At the very least, would have been great if PP let the community mod the game...  just think of it..  we already have some wonderfully made courses, but think of the player animations, clubs, maybe some soundscripts, and whatever else could have been available.   Well, no use discussing it now..  there will never be a PG2, so not worth getting aggravated over it.
