With the pending release of Course Forge and the end of the golf season here in a few weeks I want to learn what I can about Unity and Course Forge. I assume that the free download at Unity is all I need? Is there some instructional videos on Unity and Course Forge that I can check out? Thanks.

You will need to download the correct version of Unity - CF only works with older versions, because every time Unity upgrades, which is quite frequently, CF then has to follow suit - or decide to skip an upgrade. Your best bet at the moment would be to download version 5.2.3.1f
And yes, that is all you need. If you want to tweak textures on top of that you will also need a graphics editing software like Photoshop or Gimp (the latter is free). Lots of other 3rd party softwares for 3D modelling, animating, audio editing etc are not strictly necessary, but if you want to work outside of the generic default zone and add a personal touch, you might find them helpful. There are also tons of free assets, like textures or 3D models, all over the internet, should you want to expand the range of your design.
There are gazillions of video tutorials about Unity on the internet, just google what you need, it should mainly center on the Unity terrain editor. A large collection of instructional videos on Course Forge, made by Mike, exists as well but is not available to the public yet. Until you actually have CF they would not be of any use to you.

Thanks Kablammo your reply should be a sticky assuming CF is released within a few weeks - I copied and pasted your comment to my own personal doc file on my pc hope it wasn't copyrighted
Little known fact when King Arthur was trying to make a golf course and he ran into some conflict. King Arthur: There's a peace only to be found on the other side of war. If that war should come I will fight it! Other important fact. Read the Book of John in the Holy Bible.
