To me, it seems odd to omit the NT systems that spawned Win 2000 and the progression through Win XP to the current Windows operating systems.

I found an interactive site that  includes 1.0. Just click the dots on the left side of the page.

I suppose the NT path was more for Server operating systems, explaining why they weren't included in the summary.

I wonder how long it might take for Win 10 to become the most used OS in the world?

I agree. Most likely because the everyday computer user would not be familiar with the server-side of the Internet.

Bump.  Too interesting to miss if this falls too far behind the viewed topics.

95 and XP were the biggest breakthroughs, was a beta tester for 95, loved It.

Win 7 was peak Windows, am clinging to It until security updates stop.

NT was also a huge commercial step up, giving Microsoft a 10 year window of mid range server competitiveness ( and If they'd played It right the chance for dominance) that has now disappeared. Spent most of those 10 years with IBM supporting NT and Windows Server 2003.

This game and maybe flight sims will eventually lead me to a minimal version of Win10 that I boot for nothing more than games.

Sadly after 22 years Microsoft have forced my hand, Linux for everything else.

I agree about XP, as do many others.  That OS gave all of us who like to know what makes Windows "tick", an excellent learning curve. A couple of years later with XP's ability to connect through MSN Messgener to another computer was just the beginning.  Soon to follow was 3rd party software that allowed super-fast connections to other computers around the world.

My final decision was TeamViewer for Business in 2006. (lifetime license $750.00)

Note:  Not being a coder/engineer, I rely on the most reputable sites that offer CMD/Powershell entries, Registry Keys, .inf files etc. to do the major tweaks to Windows OS.  I have stripped everything from Windows 10 i.e.  Cortana, Edge and all the included features that for me, are simply not needed or wanted.

I admire your tenacity Crusher:)

It's the way Win10 installs patches without asking and without details of what they do that really irks me.

Then It's back to various forums to find out If they've undone your work or changed the privacy settings.  Again...

I understand.  Are you aware that you can at least customize Windows Downloads to "not" install new drivers?
