Ooops...  The Doctor said it would get better...lol  The course is Iron Valley. That was the raw I made for Roy. Try this link... https://mega.nz/file...i3fCOKDjN_66xTA

Ah yes!   You had previously "showed me" how to import the RAW and image file into Unity..but thanks anyway!    I am going to give QGIS a shot, so this way, I can create the RAW and overlay on my own.    It might take me a few rounds, but hopefully it all makes sense and I can get the hang of it.   Thanks!

Yeah, all we need is the QGIS and CloudCompare. (both free) Be sure and download the versions that Mastablasta recommends. Other versions may or may not work. It'll take a a few hours first time through, but after you get the steps down you can whip out the raw and overlay in about 30 minutes.  Plus, you'll need windows 10 or later, windows 7 wont work with our version of QGIS.  :)

Awesome...  I am actually going to print out the 'check list' and go step by step..  I'm pretty sure I will mess up something along the way , but why not give it a shot, right?    Yes, I have both versions listed in the instructions and the required tools..  I'll post my progress along the way... not that anyone  is reading though.  hahaha

lol...Sad but true. If it wasn't for you, it would probably be months in-between posts around here. Yeah, they'll be some goof-ups, sometimes your fault, sometimes the software or lidar not playing along. I should warn you, tho...it can get addicting. I think I have over a hundred courses to do now. I figure 3 months a course, that's four a year, I should have them all done in about 75 years.

Hahaha     Hey, if you ever want to pass any along, I'd be more than happy to take a few off your hands...  I know I am not the best designer or even close to what others (including yourself) have created, but I do have the time and willingness to do so.   I think the players over at PGLS are very appreciative that just a very few of us are churning out courses here and there.   Even if the courses do not get used for tournaments, there are players that just want to play something new, even if it just once.   And that makes me happy...

In any event, back to the topic on hand..  let's see what happens with the lidar to terrain process.  I will do my best to pay attention to the instructions and details of the guide.. all 29 pages of them!    :o

Sorry, can't help much on the Canada (tiff tiles).  :(  It sounds like you were trying to get waaaaaay too big of a plot. 100 tiles is way more than you should need. For example, if I wanted Raven GC in Phoenix, it looks like I'd only need about 9 tiles for a 2500x2500 terrain. What course in Phoenix were you looking at?

I was looking at the Victory Course at Verrado.  It's quite possible I have no idea what I downloaded and it was completely the wrong information!

I was going to try to do only a few holes, but I haven't gotten to that point, yet -- seems I get too much else on the go and computer time seems limited, even in my retired state!

No problem...I grabbed it for you. I think the "Bing" overlay looks a little better than the "Google", but I included both. I tried to include a few mountains for aesthetics. The lidar looks pretty decent. (bunkers look good). Any questions, let me know.  :D

Jugador, I've downloaded the file and am surprised it was only ±100 MB.  My initial efforts must have been going down the wrong path!

You didn't comment about the data, so I'm guessing you didn't have any issues at all during the process.  The process doesn't seem very onerous in my opinion, but I really questioned the organization of the process - it seems there were folders within folders within folders, and I couldn't rationalize that, so my structure was a bit different.  Because of the issues, I uninstalled all of the software to try and prepare for a 2nd attempt following the exact structure noted.  However, I haven't gotten to the point of reinstalling anything yet!

If I get back to it, I'll have to ask some questions in Discord, I guess, but I ended up with at least 3 versions of Unity (mistakenly installed a 2018 version, then the 'correct' 2018 version and all of this in addition to the v5 that I think is required for PG.  Anyway, thanks again and I hope to view your work in the relatively near future!

Armand

Hi Armand...no problem. I'm glad I could help out. Of course, the real hero is MastaBlasta over at OPCD. It must have taken months to make the videos and write step by step instructions. Trackman should give the rights of this game to DPRoberts and MastaBlasta to get it back on it's feet again!

Must be a real stone in TM's shoe that we can still play PG.

I'm still enjoying Les Bordes Jug  :)

Hey JT... :D  glad to hear you like Les Bordes. I like it a lot better with my 4070ti pc... ;) I have to admit it was a bit of a fps strain on my old 1080...lol   Why would TM even care about this game? We can't play these courses on a sim, that I know of.  <_<

You're not the only one Armand... holy toledo, my process is a mess and I am all over the place and geez, can be discouraging... maybe it is me and I just need to follow the process a little slower, but not sure how much slower I can go.. haha    well, back to adding splines to my course in Unity..

Actually the GS Pro peeps can play pretty much any PG course, I just figure TM find any lingering PP code antithetical to their business model.

That's why I'm still petty btw, those of us who learned CF expecting backup lost it, only for those learning OPCD to stride in, make courses and have them embellished with experience.

Hmmmm...I didn't know you could play PG courses on GSPro.  Well, if TM owns PG, that makes sense. GSPro is growing pretty fast, it seems like they upload 4 or 5 new courses a week from all over the world. Honestly, if I had room for a sim, and I could afford TM or GSPro (money wasn't an issue), I think I'd go with GSPro, just because I could build my favorite local courses.  B)

4 - 5 a week?   That is pretty impressive...  just out of curiosity, does anyone make their own designs?   In other words, not using lidar data?   I see over at discord that it is all about the lidar data and real courses that designers are building, but have not seen any indication of "fantasy" courses...  I ask this simply because the lidar process is pretty extensive and while I am making my way through it, I'm starting to lose interest, however, I might be interested in checking out OPCD for a fantasy design...  money is not an issue, but at $250 a year, I am not sure how much time I would spend making courses that nobody would play..  And that includes myself since it appears the mouse swing is pretty terrible.  I know the sim is not meant for mouse swing, but I ponder the justification of spend for the enjoyment of playing an "updated" version of PG.

I am also a little confused regarding the use of Unity 2018..  are the courses made in Unity, OPCD, or something else?  How does that work?

Hey buddy... :D  Well, maybe I'm being a little "doting" about the course output.  It has it's slow weeks, but sometimes it "seems" like a course is uploaded everyday.  ;)  They already have over 1,400 courses. (link to list at bottom) Plus, they have "patreon" designers, and "for hire" designers, so that slows the "public" output. Most are "real" courses, but every now and then someone puts out a fantasy course. This designer just put out a cool Star Wars themed course. (link at bottom). I feel your pain about the mouse swing. I wish it had 3 click, too. I'm no expert on the design process, but I think you'll need Unity 2018, Blender, OPCD tools, inkscape and a couple of other things. But, I'm pretty sure they're all free to use. MastaBlasta gives a quick overview of the process. (link at bottom)
