Anyone know if there's any chance PP ends up on Steam Deck? I just saw where PGA 2K21 will be playable and would love to have PP as well.

Judging by the fact I'm the only person browsing these forms at the moment not much going on with this game anymore.

Let us know if you buy one and try it out!

I'd be interested to know how PP does on it for sure

I have one preordered and should have it by quarter 2. I really hope PP is supported.

What do we know about the GPU?

What desktop GPU power level does it compare to?

Not sure really! I've seen it run some pretty demanding games. Since the resoultion is 720p, which is OK for a device that size, games should run well.

I have a switch and PGA 2K21 runs on it, and the Steam Deck is overall better than the switch. I'm just concerned about optimization with PP.

Actually it equivalent to a GTX 950 up to GTX 1050

  • CPU: Zen 2 4c/8t, 2.4-3.5GHz (up to 448 GFlops FP32)
  • GPU: 8 RDNA 2 CUs, 1.0-1.6GHz (up to 1.6 TFlops FP32)
  • RAM: 16GB LPDDR5 (5500 MT/s quad 32-bit channels)

LTT Tech did a short summary of it a couple days ago.

Oop, that's old.  He did a Short the other day and says the full story will be up Monday.

For PG specifically, that doesn't give me a great feeling.

I run a Hackintosh and as a result I'm always forced into AMD GPUs...

For PG in particular, a much beefier AMD GPU seems to always be required than what is needed if you have an NVIDIA one -- especially when 3D grass and reflections get in the mix.

This game is just poorly optimized. I have a 3090 and a Ryzen 5950X and some courses still struggle. I've tried many different settings and finally gave up and deleted those courses.

Oh for sure that too

Or at the minimum seems built around some key NVIDIA tech a bit better or something.

If you're logged in to Steam it will show the level of compatibility for your library.

PG shows as "untested" for me

PG runs and plays real good on the Steam Deck, i installed it yesterday and have really enjoyed it in the portable form, I'm using the 3 click swing and it's fun, all the buttons are linked to the game layout.

It runs smooth at 60fps and good colour depth.

I haven't looked into adding extra courses yet, just playing the default courses and the ones I'd added to my account.

So far so good and really happy to have a good 3 click golf game on a handheld device :)

Steam Deck follow-up ...

Adding extra courses is much the same as on the PC but you'll need to tick 'show hidden files' to find the Steam folder.

I added and played Pebble Beach US Open with no problems.

What in game resolution are you playing at on the Steam Deck?

I assume the controller swing works also?  (RTS-C)

I use the default resolution in the game 1280*800 which is very crisp for the size of screen.

Yes, swing controller works fine, i use it as well but when in chilled-out relaxed mood I like the 3-click for fun.

@gravedodger

I'm curious ... did you try any courses with 3D Grass?

Sorry for the late reply Buck, haven't been online for a few days.

I maybe missing something but I don't see an option for "3D Grass" in the settings ... ?

I may be wrong, but I think it's simply a matter of downloading a course that had "3DG" in the title.

Might need to re-click that link after logging in to see the most recent.

Cheers Mulligan, I shall download a 3DG course and give it a test :)
