Looking Good

FPS Tip for you

In your terrain settings, Check your Pixel Error settings if its a very low number then Change the pixel error setting to like 7- 10, see if it affects the look of your terrain much. The higher you can get this number, the higher the fps will be. You might be able to get as high as 15.

You might lose some detail in the terrain but all your splines will not be affected that much. ( might be noticeable in bunkers from a distance. ) Play with that until it looks ok in game.

I got this tip from Jimbobh, give him a pm if you still have problems

Cheers

Doc, on the last image you've posted in post 111 i can see the front left corner of the tee mesh of the tee closest to the camera showing a very jagged profile. Could probably do with a bit of smoothing (or make the mesh grid tighter).

Understood....I thought I would get it out July 4th weekend, but doing everything we can to optimize the gameplay so people with lower end computers can play it. Getting a few FPS here and there but not that successful. Hoping to find that one thing to solve the situation.

Finding I'm going 2 steps forward but at least not going backwards

Even having MJ take a look to see what we can do. It is very playable on my bootcamp PC i5 core with lowest fps on 2 holes only 19-20 fps on ultra high defaults. Otherwise 25 to 30...sometimes 40

Also working on improving the strategy on a few holes to have so decisions off the tee

You could just learn to create your own courses. Might help reduce your stress level.

I would be a little hesitant on pixel error changes.

K11 or PZ can that change the shape/ makeup of the meshes when recompiled?

Reason that would matter is that he has exported 100s of bunker splines and surrounds that currently match the CF meshes to create his bunker magic. If his CF meshes change, he would have to redo way too much or potentially have mesh tears between the CF meshes and hand adjusted/painted ones.

Even if he didn't recompile the mesh splines, I would imagine he would then get terrain show through in the distance then.

No, shouldn't. It will make the terrain go a bit more low res and approximate in the distance - if taken too far you can observe, mostly in follow cam, far away terrain features getting mushed up a bit. Takes an trained eye to spot this, though.

Afaik you can change Pixel Error at any time without any adverse consequences to your work. It's a display feature that influences only how things look, not how they are.

Good news and more good news

first, the file corruption was found,..bunker number 233 on hole nine had a bad material, splat map which caused the crashes. So I didn’t lose that much work and the 400 meg mark dosent cause courses to crash.

I had Mike Jones screen share my unity program and we found that a 3d speedtree grass object I bought didn’t have the LOD1 adjusted correctly,…so i was getting unnecessary high vertex/tri counts that slowed game play.

by adjusting the sliders, I got frame rates back up to a min of 25 FPS on the several pesky slow holes, with FPS up to 30s and 40s

…on ultra high default settings and even higher settings. So this heavy planted course is getting decent game play.

Welcome to The Glen v 1.0 beta. (link below)

Please read the readme file.

A powerful PC computer is required to enjoy the very detailed planting and complex custom bunkers.

Any bug reports will be reviewed and corrected in the final version.

The planting LOD can be adjusted to get better FPS but we will start from this beta and either crank it up or bring it down. I am open to playability suggestions. Bunkers can be deleted and they can be added in key places (fairways and greens). fairway slopes can be flattened or increased. Unfair pins can be tweaked. The clubhouse can be altered. A halfway house can be added. Possibly Birds added depending on FPS.

I’m ready for a nice break and will pick it up after the summer.

Enjoy!
