Yeah, hopefully all of us "mere mortals" will be able to play it come mid January.

Do you think, really, that Early Access will come in mid-January 2015?

I'm hoping it does but I'm betting that it doesn't.

I was a beta tester way back when Access produced Links.  We had a lot of fun back then and I still play Links 2003.  I recall being a part of the beta team when multi-player was being tested and was finally released as part of the game.

Alan,

MJ has posted that they were aiming for mid-late Jan for getting the Early Access out to the masses.

Probably the worst thing he could have done, as by the time we get to the 20th and it hasn't appeared, folks will be screaming as it hasn't arrived, lol. He never guaranteed/promised a release, just said that is what they were aiming for, but you know what some folks are like.

;)

Daz, I have to needle you a bit on this one.  Back when PP had just set up their website and PG was in it's beginning phase, you were the most outspoken and frustrated person on the boards about the lack of updates from the devs.

Just sayin. ;)

I think people have been very calm recently compared to the early days.

No dates should be mentioned until they are certain. They should just use my old favourite ASAP. But unfortunately that would not please everyone either.

Andrew's post below doesn't mention anything about aiming/hoping for a January release though.  Oh well, guess it'll be out when it's out.

Both Mouse and Motion Swing are already in the game, Early Access Release on Steam in January

Personally, I'm fine with the 'when it's done it's done' model if it's in the production of a 'great'  product.

However....  Steam has a process and format for releasing EA games once they're 'green lit', if you screw around with them too much, as in they get the sense that you've not been totally on the up an up with respect to progress and such toward release dates. Well, it's their playground and they can kick you out of it if they want.

PP has pretty clearly made the statement that the game will be offered up in some form or other on Steam at some point near late January - I really hope the can stick to it. ( I do however, again personally, have no issues if they don't. Just don't want to see them piss of Steam )

That's because I was referring to MJ - Mike Jones. He posted a comment in reply to someone on Steam in Perfect Golf's Greenlight section.

You have quoted Andrew. They are not the same person.

I agree, I was. But I don't see what that has to do with my post. I'm not asking him to keep updating us every hour about the Early Access launch. It can come when it's ready as far as I'm concerned. AJ and MJ do enough posting in the private testing threads.

All I'm saying is it was possibly a bad move MJ saying he hoped for a mid Jan release for Early Access, as if it doesn't get released, people will be all over him saying "but you said mid Jan and we don't have it".

MJ has stuck his neck out and given a date, but folks will hold him to it if the Early Access isn't available by 'mid Jan' because that many people these days take people literally, so because he has said 'mid Jan' then 'mid Jan' it must be.

Nothing to do with the amount of updates they give.

;)

I'm just glad we are well past the point where people were saying it was vaporware and was never going to happen.

I'm more than willing to wait for what is looking to be a fantastic game.

We're going as fast as we can but we need more hamsters on the wheel. Progress has really ramped up to an unprecedented level and every day we get a new internal dev build. The alpha testers get at least one new build a week and to a man they say the progress has been very swift this last few months.

Steam have their own release criteria too so even when we have things ready for Early access we will need to get the thumbs up from them.

I realize who I quoted and also that they are not the same person.  I'm not an idiot.  I've been following the development of this game for over 2 years and am well aware of who's on the development team.  I was just pointing out that Andrew made no mention of "aiming for January" in his post.   Anyone reading his post would get the idea that an early release in January was definite.

Great pic!

Mike, how did the team come to a decision on club distances?  Just curious.

Well, he didn't say mid Jan 2015, so technically they can still release it in May and say it was released 8 months earler than expected...  B)    :P

Mike, how did the team come to a decision on club distances?  Just curious.

We basically plugged in the PGA tour trackman stats for launch angle, clubhead speed, ball speed, spin rate etc into our physics engine. It's taken a LONG time and many man hours to perfect the ballflight physics so that when we plug real world data in, we get real world performance out. Tour average 8 iron is something like 160.

Ground physics is a little more of a black art and that's something we will be continuing to develop into Early access based on player feedback and further fine tuning. The club distanced we display on screen are just a rough guide based on perfect conditions, zero elevation change, no wind and a perfect 100% swing.

With some practice and play in different conditions you will learn how the trajectory and spin rates etc are effected by wind and elevation so you will develop your own set of numbers in time.

New to the forum but have been following for quite a while. Has beta testing ended or are they still accepting requests or is it close to being released on steam later this month that it would be better just to wait for that?

Next stop: Early Release - to late for a private beta invite, I'd say.

If you don't have a Steam account yet, I would suggest you go there and open one.
