PC first, other formats to follow if things go well.

The only real thing I can see killing this game up it's full release is if it in any way resembles WGT with respect to game manipulation and their dreaded deviation. Not the EA of course because no one expects a finished game within that.

Also, whatever you're using for your MP infrastructure, please make sure it works. ;) That might sound blunt and somewhat negative but as much as this game looks like it's gonna kick it and be a lot of fun to play, it's the ability to play MP rounds with friends that is going to be the deciding factor in the longevity of this game. It is the only reason WGT is still around, this is supposed to be golf after all.

Everything so far, video, pics all look great. Can't wait to get on the EA and try it out.

Will there be prizes, for tournaments? Hate to compare, but like at WGT you can win credits that allow you to purchase items or what ever.

Will there be anything like that here?

I have a question about the camera movement.  I notice that when the ball hits the ground the camera moves up and down the same as the ball.  In Links 2003 the ball bounces but the camera stays stationary.   I easily get motion sickness, no Grand Auto for me, and was wondering if the movement will stay the same in the final release.

I really really really hope that the mp is a true turn based one and not the shotgun one that TWO had where everyone just played and you could be on the green putting and a tracer goes passing by you. I want an honest to goodness turn base play where  you see your competitor pull the club out line up his shot and the results of it. This plus being able to create courses is the secret to why TW08 has lasted so long. It's is a longer game no doubt by having true turn base play but it is far far more like real golf too. If you are tied with your playing partner and its getting close to the 18th and he sticks one close you know you also have to try and do the same. However if he shanks one you can see that taking a safer approach might be wise. This is the mental part of the game and it makes it far more challenging and realistic. If you had an option even to have both true turn base or  "ready play" as they called it in TW that wouldn't be too bad just as long as before the game you could tell how it was set. That would give  people the choice for either a quick round or a more realistic one. If that isn't possible then I definetly hope true turn base is the first choice.

To me I was never a  fan of ready play but I do understand that some guys just want to crank out a quick round and move on. Like I said the tracer thing in TWO drove me nuts. Not once have I ever been on a course and about to take a shot and then be distracted by a tracer go whizzing past me. ;)

I hate to bring light to 'that other game', but that exact scenario is what does make it fun to play, you can see what the other player or team just shot, what they're left with. It is the only way you can do MP now, anything other than real turn-based MP would be the kiss of death I think.

Oh, and by the way Woodo.... Nice drive with that 26mph wind, wow! Ball just b-lines for the far left rough. That's why I quit playing, just got to be way too much.

Multiplayer is truly turn based. Indeed I played 18 holes the other night and managed to do half an hour of work while my opponent was shooting (and he wasn't a slow player either).

That's good to know.  Can you see your opponent's golfer hit their shots in the current build?  Also, do you have the ability to see the opponent's replays when they activate them (or is that just something they would only see on their computer)?  One last question, is there a way to pick up on the hole you left off on if you or your opponent lose internet connection?

You see your opponent hit, but you see it from the same viewpoint as when you're hitting. In fact with only one player animation currently available, sometimes I think the game has crashed because the swingmeter has disappeared.

Not sure about the replays as my sim golf is too poor to want to see shots again. Nor do I want to see again my opponent put one to 2 feet. Hopefully replays are only shown to the player who requested them, and allow the other players to continue playing. I'll take note next time.

Your last question - I equate loss of internet connection to inability to continue on a real course due to health. DQ. Ok, I'm kidding. Haven't noticed yet but I'm sure if it's not working yet it will be.

You can change the Camera, so you can have an alternative. However, that movement you see is only todays Early Access Camera movement. Ongoing tweaks may see several other changes made..

Will there be any ability to cross platforms with course files, etc?

If the game is everything I hope it can be, I'd probably get it for a second platform so my kids could play it; ideally I'd like to be able to use any course I design and have it usable regardless of platform. In this house we have three PCs running three different OS's, a Mac, a PS3, an original xBox and a Wii.

Other platforms are some way off IMO. There is still a ways to go before we get a full PC version. Early Access for all on PC is hopefully on target for mid-January. Bringing the game to consoles, whilst on PP's wishlist, is not guaranteed.

HBS hinted at cross platform when they were developing TGC, but as far as I am aware, the only cross platform is the sharing of courses. There is not yet a way to play a 2 player game using XBOX vs PC.

;)

I believe the reason cross platform play is not currently in TGC is due more to the resistance of Microsoft and/or Sony than technology limitations. It was like pulling teeth for HBS to get cross platform sharing of courses approved by Microsoft and Sony.

Course sharing is really the one thing I'd be most interested in anyway, and that sounds like something that shouldn't be too difficult to implement.

I can think of nothing more annoying than lining up a putt, taking the backswing, then about to follow through and having some one shoot a ball to the green your putting on, if PP PG is going to have something like that in its MP, then hopefully its an option to turn the damn thing off. If I was playing a real round and some one did that when I was about to putt, I would probably run back to the player or group as quickly as I could and either give the offender a good strong piece of my mind or wrap my golf stick round his head, In real golf it is about the worst thing you can do on a course, and definatley against the ettiquite of the game.

I for one do not want to know what the group behind is doing, that is for them. The fun I get is playing with the group I am with, not being interuppted by the group behind.

I don't get the whole, "finish my round in 15 minutes thing"....especially when you are playing with others. Turn based, just like in Links 2003, is exactly what would be ideal..   perhaps a Fast Play option (again like in Links), might be good for some with limited time, but what a blast it is to play with others in a turn based game.   It is the way golf is made to be played!

My feelings exactly!

By the way, what are the chances that I'll be playing the early alpha by next week?  :)

do you think they will email eveyone when it is released - I assume they have our email contact info as we I believe had to provide an email address in order to post on the forums.  so if that is true shouldn't they email eveyone when it is available ...

Little known fact when King Arthur was trying to make a golf course and he ran into some conflict. King Arthur: There's a peace only to be found on the other side of war. If that war should come I will fight it!    Other important fact. Read the Book of John in the Holy Bible.
