I think it is a little crazy that PP thought they were just going to repackage speedtree's assets. This problem should have been seen a long time ago. Why would a subscription-based company allow another company to distribute their softwar without compensation? Even if they get this figured out, you are only going to get a 1 month cupon. It isn't like you will be able to use the tree creator forever. In that first month, you better create every tree that you want to use for the rest of CF's existance, or you will have to pay SpeedTree yourself. 

 

Also, the way it sounds (correct me if I am wrong), PP will be selecting who gets the cupons. That is what I read when they say "the first round of cupons." If I am wrong, let me know, but I imagine the future will play out this way.

Im sure there will soon be a nice little library of assets that designers would be willing to share/put out for others to use. In fact Im sure there must be already as there seem to be a hell of a lot of trees in these course we've already got. I guess it comes down to how accurate a tree ya need if your replicating a real course, and if its fictional I guess it doesnt matter. 

 

This game has continued to devleop because of its community, and I hope the same will be said of Course Forge. Failing that as I mentioned earlier there must be trees out there, things like these below would surely drop straight into unity, and so work with CF?

2. depending on what the coupons worth is, would it be feasable for non-PP owners to purchase this game just to get the free trees?

I've checked their site out and those are some pricey trees unless you get a month to month subscription.

If I was PP, I would stay as far away from promoting users "sharing" speedtrees assets as possible. Would need to get into the fine print of the speedtree user agreement. 

Yeah nothing to do with PP, Im just saying that if Id made some trees in speedtree, then I would hope id be well within my rights to do with them as I please, including sharing them with other users.

If you create your own trees - ie. own bark/leaf textures and then create variations using the Speedtree program I believe you can distribute them any way you like. If you use Speedtrees own trees to create variations then you cannot. If you subscribe to the program for a month I think you get the 3 default tree types to use for your own projects. Don't quote me on this though.

If designers secretly shared variations of trees they had bought then I doubt they would ever be caught because nobody is likely to be policing a minor game title's free community content.... but it would be illegal, so there would never be a place on the PP forum for this practise to take place openly.

ooo nice ad hom attack! You sure are smart! So you actually think SpeedTree is going let people use their subscription-based program for free forever just because PP sold PG to someone? What planet do you live on? You think PP is going to keep buying you cupons? SpeedTree is $20/month and PG is $35. You do the math. You have as much business sense as God gave a slave. 

If only you knew anything about me.   And if only either one of us knew what PP was actually doing in the background with SpeedTree.  My only point was that you are stating things as if they are fact when the only fact is that you have NO CLUE what's going on with this.

By the way, you personal attack against me regarding my son's service to his Country was so extreme that IMHO, it warrants permanent banning from this forum. That would then match you permanent ban from the JNPG Discussion Group. The reason for the Steam ban, by Mike, was trolling and misinformation. Nothing has changed.

Back to the topic at hand; I think the Course Forge beta should have long since already been released to the public... but, I get the impression that the guys doing all of the, "soon," talking, aren't even really the final decision maker, to begin with.

 

If it's not for these missing, "coupons," than all of the sudden it's because of some other reason. The depth of excuses seems to have no bottom... nor does this oft-used refrain surprise me, anymore.

 

So, like a lot of things... we just continue to wait for the guy that - for whatever reason - is just not telling.

 

One thing that requires no speculation; is that they've on several occasions had company spokesman saying, "soon," for what amounts to an awful long time now... and, we all know for a fact that - no matter what calendar we've been using - it has gone well beyond the scope of any semblance of, "soon."

 

On another note; the game lobby wasn't that impressive for a Saturday, today, either.

 

I think that, as we keep dealing with recurring and new bugs, with each and every so called, "update;" and, we already have what amounts to reneged on promises, regarding Course Forge... it makes sense that - the already finite list of players - are gradually starting to find other things to occupy their time with.

 

I've been one of the most regular players of this game; but, with the perpetual lack of quality control, as well as, the lack of quality major venues to play, nor any competitive purpose, outside of off-site tours... I'm straining to come up with reasons to even feel like playing this game, anymore.

 

Worse yet, this forum is full of guys that refuse to field any critical thought, with anything other than nonsensical drivel, in reply; and, I'd be quite surprised, if the response to this here on-topic post doesn't involve some form of, "good riddance," or some other personal attack... which is part of the problem, and is not ever going to be a part of the solution.
