Very nice, thank you for that. I recommend watching it in Full HD, btw.

Your grassy textures are real winners! I'm not sure about trying to draw the path with a texture brush, it always looks a bit strange to me. So gratifying to see you lower your viewer cam through the ground of the terrain sometimes, too.

I love your pics Gary. It's got a sort of haunted medieval  feel.

...I'm hoping for a windswept, rugged, open type of feel, so actually haunted, medieval isn't too far off I guess ;)

Here's the approach to the driveable par 4, 15th:

Very nice again... the theme continues... and strangely, it feels alot closer than the par 3 earlier. I know you said it was driveable... envisaging 240-260yds..?

Yep, that shot was taken from the fairway, I would imagine the distance to be around 90-100 yards there...

If I could double 'like' some of these pics I would. Can't wait to see what you come up with when you get the new CF beta Gary.

After some tinkering (and some hair pulling), and thanks to Kablammo11 for the inspiration, I have managed to produce a quick fly-by of one of my holes...

It uses Unity's web player and can be found here

Obviously, it's still a work in progress but I thought that you might like to take a look rather than continually posting stills...

Cheers,

Gary

PS it takes a while to load...

Top drawer Gary.

Could imagine playing that hole on a cold, damp morning with the wind whipping in from the right, lol.

Very nice, did you make the flythrough using the animation editor? - if so you'll be pleased to know that CF has it's own flythrough tool which is much easier :)

Mike, I am using a camera mapping script.  Looking forward to a simple fly-through tool :)

I have posted another one here for anyone interested...  This is the approach to the 15th.

Wells Hollows? I admire you for using so little grass to get such a wonderful grasslands effect...

Gary, can we strike a deal? I will stop "liking" your posts, because I like them all and you can safely assume that I will keep liking them. In return, you may stop liking my likes. That ought to shave a quarter of an hour off both our days... ;)

Deal!!

The original layout (and name) was created in TW, and there was a designer back in the day call Joe Wells, who's work on PGA and TW pretty much got me into designing, so I guess it's a nod to him :)

I think the grass thing is about trying to marry your grass colour with your terrain texture so that where the grass is thin it's not so noticeable...

What is noticeable, in comparison to my grass, is that yours is slimmer and features thin stems as the lowest part, with the bits of denser growth higher above, creating an impression of the bulk of your grass floating above ground. And the brighter top seems to add an extra sheen. What annoys me most about mine is that it's lowest quarter is very thick, creating clearly visible horizontal borders at the bottom, thus giving away the individual cutout shapes. That will not do!

You leave me no other option but to try to emulate your example.

Emulation Phase 1 complete.

Emulation1_zps10b59b8c.jpg

Assessement:

- Potentially successful (Improvement)

- Getting a lot more volume out of less individual grass elements

- Feeling considerably less hamfisted than previous attemps

- Recommendation: Pursue and fine-tune.

To do:

- Darken ground texture

- Desaturate grass

- make all tips a smidgen less bright.

- Replace 1 long grass model
