Nope, you can tell it's not by the reflections.

You guys crack me up. BTW You can have reflective water in PG if the designer chooses to add it. It usually ends up in a 10 fps experience though unless they compensate by adding half as many trees or you're running on a cray computer.

There is really no way to make the reflections better?
How is every other game more able in that department? (Honest question)

I know nothing about the tech difficulties, obviously....it just sucks as the off reflections are such a visual sore spot for PG.

Some scenarios the generic ones are "okay"...but in some it's so off it immediately makes your eyes go "something is very wrong with the picture".

I was playing Shadowlands (if memory serves - which it doesn't - so I could be wrong!) last night and it had those awful magnified tree trunks in the reflections. It was also a course that suffered from what I call the 'green tarpaulin' from a distance, where you see no reflections at all in the water until you are close to it. I'm wondering if this is part of the same problem, because for the most part I find that more distracting than the incorrect reflections.

The fake reflections you're seeing belong to a prefab cube map being applied to the water. And that map containing trees and foliage will never fit.  Now, every child aged 2 or more who designs courses can very easily switch that cube map out with something that it less recognisable as being not right at all - for instance with a skybox, showing only sky and clouds. Which at least would get rid of the green tarpaulin and glaringly oversized, misplaced tree trunks effects. If you get these, even with non-reflective water, somebody did not do a proper design job - by all means, do point these instances out immediately!

True reflection almost doubles the number of tris that the computer needs to render. In links, with fixed cameras, that was no big deal, hence the smooth mirrored water surfaces. In PG with moving cameras, this is a rather severe extra workload, because every frame is different and needs to be recalculated. Water shaders will be added, letting players choose to toggle reflections on or off depending on their gear - at some time in the future.

And now, point of order: There already are water reflection threads in PG, where basically all has been said about this issue already. Kindly continue your reflections about reflections there, this is a CF and course design thread. Thank you.

If you look closely in EA sport's offering you will see they don't offer true real time reflections, its an autogenerated cubemap using reflection probes which we are in the process of integrating. Not sure when that will be complete though as at the moment we have our hands full with the rts stuff.

Any possibility of adding real time reflections like what's in TGC? IMO, they look a bit better than what's in EA's RM.

If reflective water like what's in TGC is available to the designers I'm surprised that no one has tried it out and released it in a beta version of the course.

Unsurprise yourself, please. Been there, done that. Pommeroys Pitch'n'Putt & Par 3 Challenge Backyard Golf Emporium - the official Blammocorp! short game test facility. Available shortly after official release. It has been beta tested in the private part of the forums and it works. Barely.

The water at Five Sisters will be non-reflective - but otherwise rather agitated.

New Clubhouse, seen across 1st fairway, built in a postmodern and brutalist style. Hole 18 will be a par 3. 185 yds and 55ft downhill to the bottom of the clubhouse:

5iw0Lme.jpg

Still not happy with my rapids, the water mist is tricky to shape into the desired effect. Oh well. Hole 4 in foreground, 3rd green in the back. The main river and/or the five cascades will end up making water a factor on 15 holes altogether.

kQwejPz.jpg

Further up still, things are getting steeper and tighter still. Near the green of homecoming hole 10 the 4th Sister shows us the way to the turn.

QWt3OB3.jpg

...where the fifth sister saved the valley and all its people, according to the old legend at least. And her cascade is the tallest and bubbliest of them all.

Hole 9 is the second par 3, 250yds

SmJ7lzg.jpg

Plenty of reflections at Five Sisters - alas all of them are connected to metaphysical epiphanies and course management strategies.

This is 100% Unity, btw. No CF involved yet.

Nice Clubhouse and bulkhead work.

Still sad to think of the fate of the Sisters,

but my melancholy clouds will be lifted

once Tara makes a mesh appearance.

Will the course need a helipad like Jurassic Park?

Messing about with the H2O, far from satisfied

but it's a start. Looks jerky and blurry in the vid., but smooth in game.

Well, you win with the HD video, I've

got to find something better than that

goofy Bandicam. Any recommendations?

Finding something that records and allows

editing is tough, especially wanting it free.

Neal,

I upload my beta testing clips from Bandicam to my YouTube account and they can be played back at 720p HD, which usually look OK.

Looks like the one you uploaded is limited to 360p.
