My first agonizing attempt with the Tree Creator.

When I get the hang of it, this will be a Crepe Myrtle.

Ever hear of someone being beat with an ugly stick?

That stick came from this tree.

It's a beginning. It already looks much better than your average speedtree...

Tip: Use the curve tools to fine tune branch thicknesses and foliage distribution.

Nice Tip K11, Thanks

A bit more practice and the right

leaves and bark, and I may just

get close to a Crepe Myrtle.

Anyway to alter the shaders in Ps?

Needs to have pink or white blossoms

on the ends of the branches. This is all new

to me, but it sure is fun.

Plenty of ways to alter them in PS. These are textures with bumpnormal maps or alpha transparency. Same deal as with terrain textures or grass billboards - you can alter them. But first try to get all the settings in the materials right, which contain these textures.

Where did you get your bark and leaves from? Self-made?

I suppose they are included with Unity or the new CF512 package,

I just picked what was available from within the Tree Creator.

This looks like a case for Captain Photoshop then! You may unleash it on your pilfered bounty (Perhaps work on a copy, though).

Well, one thing about course design... IT NEVER ENDS! The intense dialogue between practical gameplay on a test build and CourseForge adjustments leads to ever new ideas, dislikes, experiments. And these, in return, subjected to some very stern examination in the crucible of practice, engender yet more alterations. And so on.

Latest development: The Blammocorp!™ mesh integrated Sand Patch:

E8pIO64.jpg

It comes with it's own selection of dry grasses for that extra special "arid yet strangely fetching" look.

yMAikM8.jpg

Sand patches serve a triple purpose.

  1. They are bona fide sand hazards, including sandy lies, pick shots from far and splash shots from close by.
  2. They add bright spots across a golf course and offer visual diversity to break monotonous wide spaces
  3. Sorry, I meant dual purpose

kOqkRag.jpg

Of course, looking good in Unity is no guarantee. So off we take this into the game - to find out what the above amounts to.

zdtdz10.jpg

Hm...

tdfqfkX.jpg

m'okay...

8z7n0oF.jpg

um... right...

So, the fusion between the ground below and the dry grass is not perfect yet. Next time in Unity:

  • Reduce size of the dry grass billboards, right now they are too tall
  • Reduce the saturation of the billboards (considerably!)
  • Make them a little bit lighter
  • Go over that entire mother once more, stare at each spot from all sides, then identify and exterminate all those rogue grass bushels standing around where they should not.

Sounds like a plan. And so it goes on and on and on...

I like the contrast that the sand and grasses bring to the course. I also like the way that the various bits of vegetation add variety to height and depth perception in the course.

I think being able to create a sense of depth and flow of the contours of the course is definitely something I look forward to.

Lovely pics, nice transition between textures.

Please explain "mesh integrated Sand Patch" ,

Is this like a bunker that has not been lowered, and

having no lip, and yet reacting the same?

You've just explained it yourself. Just give it the "Sand" physics material and it will act as a flat, non-lowered bunker, the kind of which abound on wild coastal courses, where short stuff and hazard embrace each other without visible separation.

The name "Mesh-Integrated Sand Patch" was mainly chosen by our marketing department in an attempt to establish a catchy acronym: MISP.

Btw, here's how it looks like after the adjustments for the Fusion of Billboards and Textures, also known as FOBAT:

xvx3bKg.jpg

Better, no? In this latest PG version, my avatar is not casting a shadow below its waste. That's a Case Of Cast-Off Non-Umbrage Tendency, or, in short:....

Thought so, just checking. I like the MISP improvement

and most of the grass. The taller grass needs to

be a bit more yellowy to my old eyes, just thinking

it wouldn't be that lush considering it's location.

Keep the reddish though, that looks great.

Actually, I take it back, looking at the pics further

up, it looks good from a distance, and adds character

to the area.

Sometimes I feel like a nut, sometimes I don't.

So on my second day with the Tree Creator I

start thinking of falling leaves. I know, this tree

is green, but it's just a test. Guess I'll need a pile

at the base unless there is a way for the leaves

to pile up on there own. You can control the flow rate

and even add a wind zone to have them blow away.

You can see some work i did on Assetto Corsa. http://www.assettoco...on-page-1.8033/

Hi ArteGal,

I don't believe that lack of  Ps skill is a problem.

Ps for me is mostly used for textures and constructing

3d grasses, along with various billboards. At times

a texture that looks great in Ps and Unity takes on

another life when in game. Once the Ps to Unity to Game

conversion is accomplished and remembered, all is well.

The link provided ask for a registration and sign in, post

some pics, but preferably Golf related... for the most part.
