Ah, bunker design....
A highly individual aspect of the trade. Rather than place one huge bunker to block off an area I prefer to draw a few small ones. It looks less boring and contrived to my eye. You may also have noted that ALL the bunkers on Karen are smallish and exclusively round - and you will find, once playing, that they all sit at the bottom of soft hollows acting as funnels to magnetically attract stray shots. They all should, of course, be pot bunkers, but that's another story that does not belong here, and not a joyful one at that.
I'm not a great fan of ornamental bunkers with complex shapes and wavy outlines. Oasis Lodge will have a lot of these, but it's a tourist resort for the simple minded, so there. I'm not a great fan of blotches of bunkers sprinkled all across a golf course either. In today's game, both with the pros IRL and the players of a computer sim, bunkers are actually not the worst that can happen to a golf ball. Rough is a lot worse - in PG, it steals distance and kills spin - bunkers don't do that.
So to me bunkers, especially those of the non-pot type, are not the ultimate penalty for a poor golf shot anymore, despite their reputation of being just that. At best, they can rob careless players of a birdie opportunity, while most of the times not offering a great threat to a par. So I tend to add them to my designs as an afterthought while relying a lot more on uneven fairway lies and nearby rough to defend my golf holes - and water, in the case of Karen.
Of course, once we do get pot bunkers where the ball can get trapped against a 7ft bank, then I can reinstall bunkers as the traditional PITA they deserve to be.
The triple trap phenomenon is nothing more than a statistical clustering of bunkers resulting from my design decisions described above.

Ah, Thanks. That's the explanation I was hoping
for, and not a soliloquy about love, broken hearts,
and a pit of despair that represents a depressive loss
of feelings and entrapment.

Every information we share is informed by emotional undercurrents, even the most sober one. Such as this here comment, unashamedly nudging this thread towards the 2K milestone.
One additional thought behind the Karen bunkers was that the round sand hazards, together with the striped fairways, might end up looking a bit like the notes on a music sheet, thus alluding gently to the patron saint of the place.

Golf is a club and ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls into a series of holes on a course in as few strokes as possible.
Golf is one of the few ball games that do not require a standardised playing area. The game is played on a course with an arranged progression of either nine or 18 holes. Each hole on the course must contain a tee box to start from, and a putting green containing the actual hole. There are other standard forms of terrain in between, such as the fairway, rough, and hazards, but each hole on a course is unique in its specific layout and arrangement.

lol there is fictional and then there is NoPutt ... haha, awesome work, but somewhat quirky and eccentric ... it does seem like he is having a lot of fun!
That Spur hole bunker shape looks questionable at best, but the buildings look great

Don't get too carried away by the trimmings. I've played the Dry Gulch beta several times and once you're in-game and standing on the tee, you will mostly see, and enjoy, a golf course in a wild western setting. It's still golf, lots of it and good one at that, with 5% added eye candy.
As for the man who made it come true, NoPutt came to this without any technical skills, he learned Unity first, then CF, then making textures and grasses, then building 3D models, then creating audio loops, then introducing particle effects and finallly creating and importing (simple) animations. And all that without turning into a heinous mankind-hating bastard like me in the process - and better yet, all that while creating a friendly, pleasing and above all highly idiosyncratic design style.
This is serious work made with serious commitment Tar and feathers, I say, on all those who dare question the golfiness of his creation.

Well, let's cleanse our palates with something Unity-related. Try and guess what this might represent:
And kids, easy on the boob jokes and bra size quips. These are my audiofiles, and their range depicted as bubbles, that I planted.
Karen will come with 6 audio clips, all self-made.
2 sound effects for special occasions
1 mainland general loop with birds and a bit of wind, running globally
1 "distant shore" loop with waves heard crashing in the distance
1 "seashore" loop with strong waves and and screeching seegulls
1 "crashing wave" loop for places very, very close to the water.

K11 has me all wrong, I was a heinous mankind hating bastard
long before I started unity. Don't get me wrong. I'm not prejudice,
I hate everybody equally.
After a hard-drive crash and losing Brushy Creek I was
slightly despondent and had my fill of trees, water planes,
water hazards, and lateral water hazards, and drop zones.
As I was trying to surmise, 'what next'? I flipped on the
T.V. and City Slickers 2 was showing the part where
"The Hand Points the Way", that's all it took for a start.
I decided, no green trees, no water and no limits.
Dry Gulch is not a fantasy course, I allowed that one
Spur hole into the design so I wouldn't forget that
design and golf is all about Fun, without that element
what would be the point.
Dry Gulch will take you away from the status quo,
but not into the fantasy realm of Tron or Star wars.
If you listen closely as you leave 18, you will hear
Dale and Roy singing Happy Trails.
Now, dust off your hats, take off your gloves,
sit by the glow of your video fire and Enjoy
Dry Gulch Golf Club.
Happy Trails, till we meet again.
