Do we have an ideal file format for textures at this point? I've seen people using .jpegs, .pngs, .tifs, .tgas....

I answered that question over in the texture thread, Matt...

Now then, as players tee off on the first hole (provided they watch part of their shots with reverse cam) - they will be able to make out a new structure in the background. It looks like a tudor house with a thatched roof. Blimey, it is!

66n2ghW.jpg

Looming in the distance, they will catch glimpses of this edifice all through their round. It is owned by Blammocorp!, the operating company behind the Karen Carpenter Memorial Course, and serves as a clubhouse for the many guests. There's also about 8 B&B rooms for golfers to stay over night, all guests of course to be genially hosted and coddled by old Mrs. Cruickshank and her epileptic and less than monosyllabic but still utterly reliable brother Arran.

Never will the Tudor House be more prominent than on the 18th, homecoming hole. Players can cut the corner to get closer to the green behind the dune to the left of frame, but the safe route will be towards Mrs. Cruickshanks period kitchen, were she must be busy preparing some godawful home-made meal she undoubtedly will be keen for you to swallow. And she will make you wish you hadn't dissed Taco Wednesday. Avoid her haggis - or only eat them after signing a disclaimer declaring Blammocorp! to not be liable for any consequences of this reckless choice of self-endangerment.

lmCYduB.jpg

(Proportions in the image above distorted due to the parallax effect of using a very long lens - real in-game will not be so compressed.)

And here is a closer impression of the thing. It comes at the low-low cost of 964 tris, barely a hit on my tri budget - and it shows. But since it's main purpose is to serve as a backdrop, it'll have to do.

z0zmh7v.jpg

Of course, I'd rather do other more course-related things right now, but the fates of technology (May they choke on the Cruickshank haggis!) are currently not in a good mood.

Can we walk inside and enjoy some haggis? And where are the pack of Scottish terriers who rule this house. Please add ...

Why add anything? It's a lot more real inside your mind. I gave you a nudge, now you go ahead and run with it. The power of imagination...

Nautilus Bay, an APCD conversion on the way.

Had to do a lot of smoooothing! No flat lies here and those bunkers are big and deep but not pot. :P

Vegetation looks good, pal, don't worry.

And the rest doesn't look too shabby either. Well done!

Adriaan,

Sweet Home Alabama. Chuffed you got the APCD conversion to work for Nautilus Bay. Was always a popular venue in Links 2003.

Will be cool to do a comparison when we have a PG playable version.

Thanks for the comments.

Daz, I'm having a blast play testing this.  I'm amazed that so far I didn't had to tweak one green apart from running the smoothing tool over a couple of times.  There will be some very tough pins but I don't want to ease it down too much.

It'a taking quite a bit of time as I'm painting textures directly onto the course map.

Did a little more work. Think I might see if its ready for beta soon. Assuming people want to play a basic par 3 course.

Starting to get a few things together for

Dry Gulch Golf Club.  A fictional course

set in the deserted western town of,  you

guessed it, Dry Gulch.

Don't come unarmed.

How are Karen's bushy and sandy parts progressing .... Sir K 11 ^_^?

Do you know if we will we get the swanky versions of Willow Heath and Black Swan in the next patch as well as Pommeroys?

Define "swanky" - An updated Willow Heath with new high res textures and a few changes will be out soon. The Black Swan will not be touched until we get pot bunkers. And Pommeroy is ready for release, I have given permission, I presume it isn't out yet for strategic reasons - would be a bit awkward if I shot a hat-trick before any of the other designers gets to score with one of his works.

Karen is not progressing and her bushes have not seen me in 10 days, during which I did not forge and courses. I need a new, de-glitched and Mac-literate CF to press on with my work. Until then, I'm on a design hiatus and have nothing to show or tell. Many others do, however.
