Do you find there's a big difference in appearance when you go from CF into PG?

That's always been one of APCD's more annoying qualities for me.

Currently there is, due to the fact that Unity 5 introduced new lighting and that PG had to go and try to incorporate all kinds of weather and times of day into the game. And that CF has been starved of development resources and can't keep up.

It's infuriating, not just annoying, and I have already caused umbrage on the private side of these Forums with my incessant demands for WYSIWYG. There currently is a bit of a work-around in place that might make things a bit more predictable, I can't say more about it at this stage.

That said, it's a work-around - and not a solution.  There's an intrinsic temptation to think that if you can bypass a problem you have solved the problem. Not so, I'm afraid!

But whatchagonnado? It is what it is, and that is that. The universe at large never does what I want it to do, so the only variable under my control in this unsolvable equation... is me.

4 more holes, 5 to 8:

Very elongated and slim green on the 5th, cascading downhill all the way. Distance control will be key.

ndra5o1.jpg

The sixth feels a little bit too trivial to me and still needs a little something. Note how here, as on all other holes, the tees are used to provide different angles into the same green, from hard on the left to easy on the right.

GpXUbP5.jpg

The 7th is a mean, mean downhiller with the fairway sloping down sharply on the putting surface. And to make matters worse, the low road down the middle has been blocked with a rock and a clump of grass.

QCVDWYw.jpg

And the 8th, brings us around back to the center. Narrow green, bunker to the right, side slope down the left. Two views, back and front.

I think this is absolutely fantastic, he's been watching the movie 'inception' which is now my favourite movie of all time displacing bladerunner which enjoyed a 30 year reign at my number 1 spot!!! it's incredible and those petals growing on that wall bear a mark of how subtle K11 is becoming in his design, absolutely not lost on me - but the fences are clearly out of place in a very bad way and look 'painted by numbers' like he's put them in because that's what you do - on an otherwise groundbreaking piece of work I really see no need to adhere to convention - IMO of course.

How about a ramshackled timber house stuck in among the skyscrapers just to underscore the inception thing, in the movie that was one of the most provoking things...

oh excuse me - those petals are not growing off the wall, it was just an illusion - K11 get on it and make it so, that will be so subtle and brilliant if you can do that.

He. The name means "Apple Meadow", the interwebs tell me it's an old rural British name.

This is the Pommeroy I had in mind...

My projects always start with a rather strong back story...

yyWepBl.jpg

I have, today, and only after some prolonged and patient tutoring by Mr. Mike Jones finally succeeded in making a build - and playing it. Now I can go about color schemes and final touches. I'll think of something for the 6th.

Pommeroy's ought to be ready for limelight in a week at the latest. It will have childishly easy holes, that much I can say, and some with rather grotesquely unfair pin positions. The latter will not be made easier - there is no god-given right to go after every pin on a pitch & putt fun course... Completion of the project ought to take no more than one week.

Pommeroy looks awfully happy to be playing

golf. And I do admire his fashion sense, Barefeet, Overalls

and a Straw Hat is just about as Southern as it gets.

For the last 3 weeks I have been struggling with

lighting, hazards, and grass, and in the interim you

have built a course. I applaud your achievements and

it must be a great feeling to have all your ducks in a row.

Great work K.

Thanks Keith... the screens tend to look a bit better than the in-game view which remains mostly glued to the ground.

And the Saga continues...

First, mopping up on aisle six. A little something was missing on that hole, but thank goodness I always carry a few pointless obelisk with me, so I planted one smack in front of the green. Chances are that this construct might obstruct the straight line to the pin - which is intended. You've got three shots for a par, that shouldn't be a problem.

VWWDpmq.jpg

Moving on to the aquatic section, starting with the 9th. Noting nasty here if you keep your ball dry.

Apologies for all these white lines indicating the edge of the water hazard: CF put these in and I can't get rid of them. The issue is known for quite some time, but naught was done about it. Every fussy whiner bellyaching about potential motion swing ratios will get indulged in the next update around here, but course designers with slightly more pressing needs are told to not be such party-poopers, to get to the back of the line and to wait for once in a blue moon...

tGL64m9.jpg

The charismatic 10th. Short, slim, and elegant, it can either be a total push-over or your worst nightmare.

73r9TNR.jpg

The inconspicuous 11th. It will be good to you. Or not. We'll see. (10th to the left of frame, 12th in the right back)

5wkwlnN.jpg

And last for today, the oddly shaped 12th  (10 and 11 seen in the back).

13 to 16 will be up tomorrow. 17 and 18 on Monday.

Yes, Tim, all cooked up by me. I do not insist on personally creating every pixel of my stuff, but looking around at freeware objects, there is very little on offer that pleases me. It's also a bit more engaging for me if I can take charge of shapes and colours thusly and try to make every aspect of the design work together, rather than having to use a haphazard amalgam of separate items from different sources.

I'm using a 3D modelling app called AC3D for creating my meshes. Doesn't need to be this one, there are many others out there who will perform the same task. The textures I also do myself, in Photoshop, mostly selecting basic materials from Google Images, then editing them and assembling them into texture-atlasses (see example below), that allow me to assign parts of the map to corresponding surfaces of my model.

The 3D geometry of my questionable creations is not difficult at all. Every kid can assemble primitives into workable shapes - the trick, imo, is to create and add the right texture to all those cylinders and cubes to make the result look slightly acceptable. One of the advantages of my little AC3D app is that I can - without requiring professional qualifications - easily and quickly paste textures or parts thereof to my models. (Sketchup, afaik, can't do that)

So this:

f8jmHy0.jpg

led to this:

PmF93xp.jpg

Additional: All of this is of course optional - Course designers wishing to forgo all of this and use stock objects will be able to do just that. There will be no need to put in some extra hours on this particular specialty.

Very Nice work. We sure could use more objects like fences, and various buldings. I have been able to get some of my custom 3D I made for my APCD designs imported, but much of my 3D in APCD was built from the terrain and textures were mapped. For my CF courses, I need to build them externally. Too bad we can't extract the buildings and stuff from APCD and play with it for possible use.

The 3D work has always been my weakest point.... I probably could have spent more time on it, but it was usually the last thing to go in, after the golf course had been done to my personal level of satisfaction and I wouldn't want to work on it anymore. So my APCD courses probably suffered a little bit from the 3D work being an afterthought. I just never had the energy after months of seam-blending, mapping, etc to then start doing stuff on the periphery.

I'm amazed some of you guys have the focus for so long. I never did in the Links designer with buildings and stuff. Only very recently on my last release that I did some bridges for the first time.

Things are getting repetitive over at the minor compound for approach shot studies.

Last item on the agenda: Create, place and shape a surrounding landscape terrain at 129 res.

0sANoty.jpg

Yawn... slap on a couple textures, plant billboard trees...

OR6Q0Tb.jpg

And there you have a bit of surrounding environment... Those were rather boring 4 minutes of my life.

frysSUA.jpg

Now just to activate the draw button of my main terrain to add the proper inside-the-wall trees. Klick...

Qs57CJs.jpg

And that's that. Now for the resumption of our Hole-to-Hole Saga, sponsored by Blammocorp! (Always with an exclamation mark, it's part of the logo cuz it goes Ka-Boom!).

So, hole 13. Last of the watery ones, short and sweet. Never mind the dead trees inside the pond, our new neighbour had a bit of a spillage  - but that's no trouble at all. Really not! Please keep smiling or they will unleash their corporate lawyers to sue us for aggravated negativity. We love Blammocorp! Smile! Keep smiling!

ctjPl90.jpg

The 14th used to be a very hard hole. We had to redesign it into a benign quickie to be away from the Blammocorp! Belfry Tower right to its side as quickly as possible. You're not smiling... please smile. Please accord generous gimmes and leave this corner of the premises as quickly as you can. Smile, damn it!

Anyway, 14 is not a troublesome challenge.

vktNa9S.jpg

...but the 15th is! Long, with a bunker inside the green bisecting it into 3 different portions. Or should that be trisecting? And right behind it you can already see the 16th...

CSsk410.jpg

The 16th is one of the shortest holes. Steeply uphill towards a crescent shape protected by a deep sand pit. Your tee shot will be either inch perfect or in trouble. Miss to the right and it's all the way downhill to the 11th hole with no chance to conjure up a par-saving up and down. The tees are spread apart widely, from easy on the left of picture to hard on the right.

roIEsiv.jpg

Have a nice sunday!
