Many thanks K11. Fantastic stuff. Will will be making anymore of these great videos?

I don't know, tbh. There will be official tutorial videos, one fine day, which will be properly informative and competent - and therefore will need to be made by somebody who knows more about CF than me. The videos I make are more like sneak previews or teaser trailers, to give viewers a first idea of what might be heading their way. With CF currently accounting for 50% of Forum traffic, I felt a little something was needed to feed the hungry mouths. I hope everybody can see how simple, quick and easy CF can be at its best - there are dangers and beastly time-consumers lurking in the background, but the core tasks of drawing meshes and planting golf stuff on them are very straight-forward and simple.

It there is anything in particular anybody wants to see covered in video, just ask for it. There's not just me, but also others around who can quickly whip up a short clip if necessary.

I've dabbled with Unity and imported terrain from World Composer so I'm at the same stage as many people who don't have access to CF and thought it might be welcomed if we can see how you get from the Unity stage to creating your first hole with CF. I realise Mike made and excellent video, which I've watched many times, but occasionally his mouse cursor disappears of the screen when I would really love to know what it's doing.;-)

What Mike's video is not showing is to the left of frame the precursor of the CF menu that you can see in mine. It hasn't changed much, he is mainly using the drawing tools to draw the splines and select the layer. And to the right is the Unity terrain engine with the sculpting and vegetation planting tools you should be familiar with by now.

I currently do not have a project at hand which has a vacant spot for a full hole creation, so I can't help you with that right now. In case you missed it, here's an old video of mine on the same subject (no audio)

BTW, I did reply to Mike tonight to ask a couple questions but I also told him I would be doing another tutorial this week and drawing out shapes for a hole I was working on so you can see how it's done by me on a Hazeltine National (a real course and not fictional) when drawing out a real course it can be much more cumbersome because you have a guide you need to follow (outline of hole) and can't just draw out any shape you want as with a fictional hole.

I will upload it to Youtube in 1080P and maybe i'll make a few in this series and call it work on Hazeltine part #1 and so on.

Yeah it will take me about a year to knowing my track record..lol, I work on it a couple nights a week now but if I have had my drink (3 shots of Honey Whiskey) I usually have to stop or I might screw something up..lol

So about an hour and a half is per night is the usual.

I do hope to have it done by Christmas here.

Yeah that really didn't make sense, how about December 25th 2015 then..lol, I'm hoping it's done way before that even but I need to keep working in the designer at least a few nights a week. The hardest part for me is drawing in the shapes because it takes forever for me since I am doing a real course. It is going MUCH quicker though because I am using the point to point method as someone suggested. I just hope I don't screw something up and lose my work, I should PAY someone to draw out all my layouts and then we could have a boat load of courses to play because they might not take to long once the shapes and painting the textures are in..lol

One thing i would like to do with someone the day i get Course Forge is to do a  collaborated course with someone! I don't think there would be a problem with sharing a unity project with another person. It would be fun to see what two people sharing design ideas could come up with. Its nice when two people have maybe different ideas for how a hole should look and play. So if anyone is interested we can talk the day i get Course Forge.

Joe, I find laying out the shapes to be the easiest part of designing.  Planting, as many who have seen my APCD designs, on the otherhand, I am not the greatest at. I do enjoy making custom 3D, but since CF will require this to be done in an external designer like 3DsMax or SketchUp or Blender, it becomes a laborious process.  But I am willing to help either way. I did make the clubhouse for Hazeltine and the water tower in Blender, very early in my PG design testing.  As for other courses, I am interested in doing anything Minnesota.

Course Forge Courses in various stages of design: Dwan Golf Club, Hyland Greens, Faribault CC, Desert Valley CC/ Woodland Trail(fictional), Infamous Golf Course (fantasy)
Links 2003 Designs: Dwan Golf Club, Infamous Golf Course, Hazeltine National Golf Club (assistant designer), Woodland Trail/Desert Valley CC , Faribault CC (beta), Hyland Greens (beta), Double Eagle (beta), King's Walk (beta), Interlachen CC (still in planning)
Intel Core i7-4710HQ 2.5GHz
  • Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit
  • 16GB DDR3L RAM
  • 750GB 7,200RPM Hard Drive
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M

I have someone making me the new clubhouse that was built last year as well as a few other objects for that course. The water tower is already made for the game I play but I doubt I can use that but making a new one is a piece of cake in 3dsmax. Never tried blender or any other 3d object creation program.

You got three from me already but when ready all you have to do is ask.

Matt I already have that ready to go..lol - In fact here is a screenshot of the World Golf Challenge version, he got the lidar from me and it was PERFECT!!

As the humongous corporate Behemoth towers menacingly over Pommeroys few blessed acres of innocent short game fun, the Résistance solwly gathers momentum. The brave defenders started with building a high wall to keep out the suits.

g6k3bFP.jpg

And then they started planting like hell, summoning the hallowed forces of nature to keep the bad spirits at bay:

Uzcf1KG.jpg

T'was an epic struggle, but each leaf became a strong shield against spread sheets and market strategies, until the giant slowly receeded into the background.

ZeG6DXZ.jpg

So this is how it stands: Pommeroy's Pitch'n'Putt: Surrounded, but not vanquished.

Something about playing golf amongst buildings..... purists don't like it, but I kind of enjoy it. I mean, St. Andrews starts and ends in the town, right?

Well, well... 9 "likes" for a single post. Must be a new record.

Thank you all, gents. The only way to like you back is to post more...

The 1st hole: Sand in front, helping bank at the back...

rFBBovw.jpg

The 2nd hole, seen from the back. Clover-leaf shaped greens guarded by bunkers, uphill. Aim for the middle, walk away with a 3

PGmxkaO.jpg

Hole 3: Full Loft wedge, and you'll need the spin to steady your shot. Everything rolling will roll down the right.

qK1biRO.jpg

4th: short, uphill and cute. Hourglass green, upper tier surrounded by banks. Use them.

JWhAhm3.jpg

14 more holes left...

There is a general theme of warmth and cuteness about this one. Yeah, its kitsch. Chrissakes, I even planted flowers... And the corporate buildings in the background accentuate the natural attraction of the place even more. I hadn't planned that, it just happened.

Today, I'm going to do some serious lighting work, because what you are seeing here is the CF version of things - "sans" the PG lighting conditions which, right about now, have to be taken into account.
