It would be fun to bring over this miniature golf course I made in APCD, but I don't think that Unity will let me make the tubes.  APCD let you do some creative "lying" that allowed Links to make things actually work.

Maybe someday I will learn to do it in Unity, but I was a pretty basic designer in APCD and even more so in CF.

I'm sure tubes can be built as 3D objects, assigned a physics material and be combined with CF shapes to create the desired effect. It can be done.

I'm not sure how the cameras would behave though, in such a small environment. They are set for larger sceneries.

Does CF allow for extrusions?

No. Although one day it might (pot bunkers).

CF allows for cutouts, meaning that for the miniature golf depicted above, the designer can cut holes in the ground mesh and then place the concrete tubes underneath them to gather the ball and send it down and forward.

CF can't do everything. CF AND Unity can do a hell of a lot more than any previous course design tool.

Sorry, no idea about the ETA - in its current state it's not quite ready yet.

Meanwhile, back at the International College for Advanced Design Shenanigans ICADS, the meshing of my pitch'n'putt course just has been completed. To soon to tell whether such an exotic specialty will please the masses.

What can be said now already is that it's going to be tara-fic!

Tara-fic!, Those look to be the sexiest Holes

in Golf. Though I swear I spotted Sara, Lara, and

Mara there too. PP&P will be a mass Winner.

K11,

This course would play great with the new Par 3 Challenge mode PP are adding.

Yes and no, I reckon. The holes are quite short around 30y the shortest and 110y the longest (top left of the image above). Pommeroy's is designed to be a short game challenge, presenting players with extreme chipping, pitching and flop situations. It might mess up the general stats, though, since GIR and average distance to pin stats will probably be a lot higher than on the long courses. And with each hole a par 3 (I might make a couple of them par 2 after some playtesting), it will also make be beneficial to the scoring stats.

More details? Why, with pleasure.

A stretch of 5 holes will involve water. Play them long and aim uphill to bail out, the terrain will quite often bring your ball back - or try to play target golf at your own peril with pins but 3 yds away from a watery grave.

Question to devs... I really would like to introduce drop zones for players finding water, to speed gameplay on, instead of having the regular water hazard drop system in place. Any idea when this will be made an option?

The 9th, from 42 to 66 yds (depending hole location). Tees are to the back right of shot and yes, that retaining wall does look a tiny bit like a bum.

iuGSjYi.jpg

The 10th. The narrowest of targets. The easy tees will be further left from this view behind the camera, the hard tees further right. The bail out shot would be a flop shot to the center of the largest part on the left. Bummer if the pin is far to the right, that will be a 60-footer.

WQO3xOC.jpg

The 11th. Seen from the back. Lateral water.

isCtHkw.jpg

The 12th, around 70+ yds, seen from the general direction of the tees shots from across the pond.

0c2jJ0S.jpg

And the 13th, back again, seen from the tees with Ms Tara King posing splendidly. Nothing to be trifled with, certainly, and that goes for the green as well.

Needs Willows, but seriously, uh, dang,

I can't be serious, but I love the Pitch and

Putt concept and the small scale should go over Big!

Could you have Tara turn around? I'm pretty sure

her Cocked stance replicates the retaining walls

bum shape.

Very nice, number 10 looks like a backwards Florida..lol

How did you make the retaining walls match up so nice? Did you bring the file into 3dsMax and do it there and then bring it back? Or did you just make 3-5 different walls with varying degrees?

Different elements. A straight bit, 2 curves (weak and strong), both CW and ACW. And a cylindric pylon to help with weird angles.

There are 3rd-party Unity fence-tool plugins (also CF might have one of these one day), that should allow to shape such a wall by repeating a short segment along a curvature. My method is the least advanced one, but it worked for me at Willow Heath so I'm sticking with it currently.

The most useful trick by far, though, is to NOT match the walls to the shape of the green, but on the contrary to build the wall first and then to draw the contours of the green to match the wall: Much easier, much more accurate.

Nice layout Tim, my wife would bash me if

I went outside with anything but a putter.

I might as well Show and Tell while I'm here.

It's been a full 3 months since I loaded CF

for the first time, I started with this simple .jpg

imported into Unity.

RIh48cL.jpg

Still a good bit to build and plant, here's where I am so far.

ViRxUvR.jpgAll holes playable in PG but still tweaking the Lighting and playing

with adding the cartpaths.

Here's a small tribute to K11 for all his help, no It's not a strangled kitten,

I stole a couple of boulders from The Black Swan.

How many "holes" do you have, Tim? And where did you get the flags?

I so need to do this.... especially with my sons approaching an age where they can start playing soon.

Meanwhile, at the Regional Workshop for Impromptu Shazammery, stuff keeps happening.

Couple benches came out of nowhere, just like that.

qoNvgX7.jpg

Next, some rather crude and ramshackle bits of fence stood out there for no reason at all

bs9iRGx.jpg

And ere we knew it, from out of the blue some rather nifty wooden structures spanned the central stew.

yL0wymF.jpg

Not to mention that weird thing that just stood there when my shift was over.

For terrain textures, rocks and grasses I decided to get lazy and just use stuff I already had from WH and BS. I'm currently adding stuff, see how it fits in, try to not think about anything and wonder where the journey will take me.

Doing some more experiments....  finally got myself over to Unity 5 now.

This is inspired a little bit by the Melbourne sandbelt style, as seen by the transition from short grass right into bunker. The textures come from an APCD course I did called Southern Cross.

Of course the real thing have sharp bunker lips, but I don't quite have the tools for that kind of precision yet. I've also managed to plant some trees, although I can't find any eucalypts.

One thing I'm noticing is that when I plant a sizeable amount of trees, my system slows way, way down, almost to the point of paralysis. I had to delete a bunch just so I could move around.

Also I haven't figured out the water yet.... that gray spot in the top photo is supposed to be a lake.
