Nice one, bagofholding. I enjoy a good jab of bitter sarcasm and yours is a real beauty. However, and I might repeat myself here for the 100th time, Unity is right there right now - and all that follows does NOT include CF - which does not work for me in U5. What follows is all Unity and nothing stops you from following suit.
Where were we? Ah yes. So I went, thinking "golf resort in African desert/savannah" and started constructing something slightly ethnic that might fit the bill. Here it is:
Accommodations for 48 parties (2 units per protrusion in the lower floor), huge balcony on top with computer controlled automatic shades. Still, it looked a bit dull in my 3D modeller, so I needed to bring this into Unity to see how it came across:
Ah, yes, that's a bit better. The new U5 standard shader is helping considerably. It also causes a few problems, but it's some sort of progress, I guess.
Oh, I can hear your thoughts right now: "But, but, but...", you would stammer, "...this is disgracefully NOT beautiful at all. It's hideous! African Ethnic Art would offer so many powerful inspirations, and all you managed to do, Mr. Kittenchoker, is a cheap and tasteless monstrosity without any charm!" Ah, yes, guilty as charged. My reply to this would be that I'm not good enough to create nice stuff in this particular specialty, but also that golf resorts preying on international tourists are generally god-awfully woeful places of gaudy, naff and trashy styles. Ever been to Sun City? I have. This structure still looks a lot better. In a disgusting Disneyland kind of way.
The Lodge will dominate the waterhole at the heart of the resort. It will be surrounded by greenery and wealth, whereas at the further outskirts the players will get molested by natives selling golf balls and perhaps small bags of kudu biltong.
This one will be gaudy and strident, folks. No subtleties allowed, not at the Lodge, the only location to get blotto 24/7 within 250 miles. There's a topless revue show three times a day in the underground theater, please book your seats at reception well in advance.
Oh, and Tara says hi.
