Well, that image and the phrase 'mental wank' certainly made me smile...
I guess he meant an imaginary one, lol. I was reading as more an over the top excessive one, as in going mental, lol.

Difference is the 16 bit images of Minecraft is part of it's "charm". I seriously doubt that anyone would consider a golf course rendered in 16 bit images charming.
There you go! I rate "charm" much higher than next-gen.
If next-genniness is necessary to add or increase charm, I have no objection whatsoever. Yet I have not seen many such usages until now and would be hard pressed to name one. Those who consider next-gen a merit in its own right, and I'm not implying you are one of them, are tossers.
And great idea! I may build a Minecraft-type golf course for my next project. Hope PP can conjure up a Minecraft avatar...

You're absolutely right. And that means I can go wild on the default sky and don't have to worry that those of a more sunny disposition will take umbrage at this one. I can also set the light very low and create huge swathes of shadowy ground and generally go for some magic light moods.

I have the Lidar elevation already imported, just don't know if I can do bunkers and such. I might have to wait till Course Forge, I could probably plant it already but I think you have to do that in CF as well that is why I am unsure of pretty much everything.

You need CF for the bunkers. And for fairways, greens, tees and the surrounding rough. The design process is best undertaken with Unity and CF working alongside and feeding back on each other.

As K11 states, it's often best to work with both CF and Unity. Gaining a visual representation helps a great deal.
However, Planting can be done on areas that won't intrude upon the mesh of your course. It's likely worth giving it a go now to see how you find the planting 'looks'. I recall several issues K11 had when we both picked up Unity and encountered 'fun' along the way. Learning how some planting works better than others, was pretty cool though. I'm sure you know only too well how grouping some plants, bushes and trees needs careful consideration, but it's worth trying within Unity too.

Yeah, we laughed... The last thing you want to happen is that when CF is available, that you still have to learn Unity as well. That's a bit much to deal with and can be way too "fun!" But if you reach a stage where you feel comfortable performing the necessary, basic Unity operations of
...you've done your homework, you've acquired skills that will help you understand and use CF, and are ready

I do OPEN GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP 2015 presentation in St. Andrews. Unfortunately I have no time to make course look nice, just a spectators village in my focus this year. Here is a quick sneak peek how it gonna look like. Job still in progress and this picture is NOT for public purposes. Would be nice to know what do you guys think about that. Thanks

Thanks Guys, I know Unity pretty well but will try to get familiar with a couple things again this weekend. I guess the one thing that I didn't understand from IanD's reply was the part about "Planting can be done on areas that won't intrude upon the mesh of your course."

Looking great K11, I totally love the look of the course and you will be joined in your course making endeavors very soon!
But please for the love of all things furry, don't rename any splines and please do not reset every single unity default setting to a custom value unless you know exactly what it does as there may be unintended consequences. We are still fixing bugs at Willow!
Posted 20 February 2015 - 09:15 PM
Did not rename any splines this time around, Mike. Not one of the 320 or so splines, honestly. Not sure which Unity defaults I mustn't touch, though, and, hell, I have no idea what they do.
Also, my openly declared and well documented favourite pastime being strangling kittens and watching the life slowly drain from their despairing eyes, my love for all things furry is not boundless.

In the spring of 19-umpty-numpty, still a young man, I bought a plane ticket to Shannon Airport, on the Irish West Coast. And I rented a car, in which I put a suitcase and my golf bag. I had picked up playing the game a year before that and a friend had arranged for me to become a member of the Mulranny Golf Club - for half a pittance. I spent two weeks motoring up and down the Irish West Coast and playing the fine golf courses there: Lahinch, Ballybunion, Tralee, Westport, Ennis, Dromoland Castle, Clifden, Ballycastle. It was a few years before the international golf tourism picked up and huge busses started shipping in and spewing out unfriendly legions of Japanese, German or American golfers wearing apparel in very poor taste. (4 years later, when I came back, the place was ruined!) But on my first trip I had these magnificent courses mostly to myself, played like an idiot, lost at least 200 golf balls all in all, and was happy like a little child.
The most magical place I came across had a very flat golf course littered with grasing sheep and fenced-in greens to protect the putting surfaces from these beasts. It was nothing to write home about at all, but this location, Achill Island, in the very North West was a breath-taking riot of cliffs and slopes and greenery. It also was the most desolate place I had ever seen, instilling me with the constant, melancholic illusion of being the last man alive on earth.
The images above may appear to be too dark, too gloomy, too far out there... Yet the Black Swan looks exactly like I remember my trip to Achill Island. It may have been built from memory, favourably distorted by time, but the result turned out to be a true emotional and atmospheric replica of the original place. Minus the sheep poo.

Great back story there K, must have been a wonderful time.
I do look forward to invading your peaceful Black Swan
wearing my Daly pants and perhaps witnessing a placid
kitten strangling.

I showed K11's pics above to friend of mine who is a TGC only player on PS4 (only other golf game he has played was Everybody's Golf on PS2) to show him what he could expect from trying PG on his PC or if he would like to play something like it in TGC.
His response - it looks a bit bland and a bit dull.
Good job he was on the other end of an internet connection as I would have likely punched him. I don't know if his view is how other staunch TGC-philes would see it, but it wouldn't surprise me.
FFS, the layout looks as rugged as it should be and the gloomy, overcast weather just adds to the environment. You just look at them pics and see you're going to have a job on breaking 80. Cracking job K11.
Just off to strangle a cat in appreciation of your work.
