EDITED:

I did, dear Richard, try and create a few rock outcrops. But these are terrain elevation that just don't feel right this way: They should be jagged and intimidating, like blades of rock shredding any boat that dares venturing near, not dumb boulders lazying about in a river bed, like they look now. So.... more objects still to get the desired effect. I am now in the process of constructing more of these to add them to the collection.

Well you first efforts looks promising. Hopefully you find the right balance between smooth and rugged.

The one thing that I've noticed on all of the courses is the sharp transition from water to land. I assume that it's an 'Unity' limitation. To me, it should be more of a 'lapping' transition. Don't know if CF can compensate for that or not.

Thanks for the post.

It's a problem. I had my riparian challenges at Willow Heath, now I'm deep into littoral turbulences at the Black Swan. I guess the current shortcomings can be compensated by

  • lots and lots of money to buy the best shaders and water add-ons there are
  • and bucketfuls of additional processing power to render this complex, resource-guzzling feature in real time

In other words, there's nothing CF or Unity can do about this and it's simply not on for me, who operates on a 0$ design budgets with free software. You saw from the water example further above that even that still looks a bit dodgy. Realistic water is way out of my league. I must forsake any hope of better water, and instead invest into better cliffs and try to draw the gaze of golfers away from the sea.

Anybody with any ideas on better oceans, do chime in. Need some help, here.

But here's another picture from the 13th tee towards the green on top of Cape Fear...

K-11, thanks for the response. Just thought I asked. I just thought that there was an outside chance. Fully understand. Maybe down the road PP can figure out a reasonable solution without people going 'bankrupt'. Of course, I consider you 'too big' to fail. :P

Love the new rock K11, neat little program is the AC3D.

I watched your video, and thought I'd give it a go.

Here's my first metamorphic igneous, and thanks for

the expert instruction. I'm not quite sure how to operate

the Texture Coordinate Editor, but I'll keep messing

around.

not too shabby, No Putt!

For the texture coordinate editor, first highlight the polygons you want to remap. They will show up in the editor where you can move, rotate or resize them by hand. Goes for individual as well as groups of polygons.

If your texture is seamless, go to Tools > UV map (second last on the long list), set the shape mapping to Box and press apply

Under Objet > Texture (only if the entire object is selected with the object cursor) you can also fiddle with the texture repeat/offset sliders to make the texture fit a bit better.

To everybody else: Self-made objects are not a compulsory part of the official course design curriculum.

Copy-pasting, rotating, resizing and moving rocky objects all over the place to crank up the ruggedness factor.

As we say in my native language: "It's starting to look."

Opinions may differ on this - to some it may look like a giant just took a huge dump....

Gotta rest, my back gave out after so much heavy lifting.

Well that's one way of catering for the lack of tree branch collisions.

Hadn't thought of that. My rocks are not going to serve as ersatz trees, mind you. Here's the 5th, basically the above image seen from the opposite end. Tee front right behind the obeliskoid monolith, green at the far back at the foot of the Black Swan.

Sorry, I have to post a brief in-house message on my own behalf. Look away, nothing for the public to see...

"Dear CF Fairy.

I've been a good boy and by that I mean I haven't been as bad as I wished I could be. You promised me pot bunkers, you bitch, dintcha? Hm? Yeah you did! And ever since PG went into EA you don't either bother with giving me BS! The silent treatment now, eh? Well, there goes the notion of member-created golf courses, then. Cuz I'm really pissed off. Newsflash, Wonderbra: Golf games are played on golf courses and golf courses happen to have pot bunkers. You really think I won't kill the Black Swan just to spite you? Well you're wrong, Missy! You asked for something rugged and ocean-sidey, now you're welshing out of the deal and pretend you didn't hear? POT BUNKERS! Could use them right about now. No, not soonish, you damn cow, RIGHT EFFIN' NOW!

Yours in adoring impatience and furious scorn: K11"

Well, it's Sunday and here's another pointless, rambling and slipshod little video about grass, billboards, and slightly connected stuff.

Full HD 1080, so it's a big file. Even so there are some motion artefacts in it, begging your pardon for that.

Very nice K, thanks for the instruction and look around.

Are your grasses imported to Unity as .psd?
