And here's the future, sweet gents. With Aroha almost done and dusted, time to formulate, announce and implement my next endeavour:
Pommeroy's Puttland
A putting only golf course with a full set of tees (7) and 6 pins per small green, for a maximum of 42 playing challenges (per hole) (of which there will be 18, of course). Above is the 1st, a par 2 ranging from 50 to 15 ft. Never mind the yucky textures, they are default for now, I will add better ones later.
Those looking for an adventurous fun putt round, please select the Championship or Tournament tees. Those who would like to practice putting without trickery, pick the Forward or Ladies tees. Those who feel in-betweenish, go for Back or Members.
The fairway mesh and green mesh, btw, will behave exactly the same, with a "green" physics material on both. I chose to feature both for a bit of visual assistance to the players and to force JNPG to display the flag stick from the tees. And perhaps for all those who worship stats to help them keep theirs a bit more realistic (though everybody will get 100% F.I.Rs at Puttland).
I want the putting to be more or less "golf-course"-like, though I understand all those who will shout "Putt-putt! Where's the windmill?". There will be no windmill, I can assure you. But a funnel to a lower tier green is possible. And I will try to place a looping on the last. And a few more tricked-out bastards, I've dreamed up quite a lot of deviltries for my poor victims guests.
I'm only doing this one now because I originally intended to go back to Black Swan and upgrade it with pot bunkers. But, no surprise, over here "soon" is never soon enough, so I will kill the time with this one.

A unique and forward thinking idea, but mostly
I'm just happy to see Tara back. No windmill huh?,
couldn't we at least have a clowns mouth on 18?
And since we can still putt through trees and walls,
why not?

It's also highly experimental. The terrain size is 130 (very small), the height map resolution is at 513 (also very low), but these two combine into one gridpoint per roughly every 25 cm - or in imperial, a bit less than 10 in.
I have set the meshes on top to 25 cm grid size, so that they will hug the terrain below and allow for much finer sculpting.
In comparison, for a big golf course we're talking about 0.75 to 1.5 m for every terrain gridpoint, depending on the size, and for 1m grids on greens and 1.5 on fairways.
I have no idea how JNPG will react to these extremely minute, much more detailed grids. Will the physics perform equally at such reduced scale, the game having 3 to 4 times more calls to check the ball path and process a new ball trajectory? All I can say now already is that something is bound to go horribly wrong, and it will be my fault because I'm straying a bit far from the beaten path. Again.
Xnay on the clowns mouth. There will be whimsy, but naught that induces a "carny" feeling. Again, slowly: This is not a goofy putt-putt, but a golf putter's course. The action of putting will be treated with all the deadly seriousness of a Henrik Stenson on the edge of the 15th green at Troon. (Btw... wow! What a feat!)

No kidding, one of the best rounds of golf
I've ever witnessed, amazing and then
on the last putt...Ka-Boom!
Just wondering, will the ball be on a tee/peg
while on the teebox?, or does that only happen
with a wood selected? I possibly haven't thought this through, as usual.

I've always kind of been curious if an actual miniature golf layout could work in the Unity universe, where you have correct ball physics in terms of the ball caroming off of walls, obstacles, or being able to make working tunnels, loops, etc.. I suppose one would have to know a great deal about colliders.
One of my favorite Links releases was St. Hellion's mini-golf; my kids and I have a blast playing it together. It would be cool if somebody could find a way to do something like that for PG.

Unnecessary Update:
Slow progress, trying to find my groove, establishing shapes and contours and general hole functionality.
It looks simple enough at first glance. But there is a lot happening with the 7 different tees and 6 pins. Permutations which all must be taken into account and will affect the contours on the ground:
The worst kind of rough players will encounter out here is "fairway", the outer slightly darker texture. All in all, it should be a minimalist place where contours rule everything and players will be enticed to go all "Stenson" on that mother...
Note some of the steeper slopes? If I had a larger grid resolution than 0.25 m, I could not have made them so steep and abrupt, because the terrain would peak through and the CF mesh would stretch out ugly.
The place has quite a linksy feel to it already - I didn't plan for that, I was more thinking parkland, but that's okay.

Always hard to follow some K11 pics but here's a few more shots of my little parkland course. Still a lot of work to do. Better texturing, planting grass, change out some trees or take some out... anyway. It's coming together I think.
Hole 3 tee (par 4 460 yards) . A little ditch runs across just for fun. Challenge the fairway bunkers on the left for the best angle to the green.
Hole 9 reachable par 5. This is the layup area. The right side of the fairway gives the flattest lie for a wedge across the water to the green.

Wow! Looks like you have mastered the Unity tools quickly.
The course looks playable in it's current state.
Great work Bortimus, keep 'em coming!

Nice one, bortimus, looking very good. If I were you, I would not invest any more time in textures, for now... all your fairways, bunkers, greens etc will be covered up by proper good CF meshes anyway.
I recommend that you keep an eye on scaling issues. Without a human size reference - or any kind of measurements - your fairway quite easily could be too narrow or too large. And you would have no way to know either way.
I use a Tara King grass billboard - see a bit further above - as a stand-in to give me an idea of proportions. Or you can create a game object "Cube" with the dimension x: 0.4 / y:1.8 / z:0.4 to quickly conjure up and place some human shape that will immediately tell you if you were scaling correctly. There are other ways, but for newbies there is the anecdotally confirmed danger of getting their dimensions a bit off.
Also, your water does not reflect! (See how you like this, hehe...)
Now follow this:
My putting-only course will be located inside a prison yard. I've already got my main tract, high walls with barbed wires on top will follow, then watchtowers with snipers platforms all around, perhaps a small pavilion between 1 and 18, where inmates will be issued one putter and one ball each.

Duly noted K11. I'm trying not to let it get out of control. Reminders are always appreciated.
Still trying to get the water to look right too. Needs tweaking.
Here's our cube friend from the 10th fairway.
And putting on the 10th green looking on to the 11th hole in the distance. The creek plays across the fairway then down the right side of hole 11. Tees are hidden by the grove of trees behind the 10th green.
The cube was heard to remark "Fill the empty spaces with something tasteful"
Your prison structure conveys an appropriate dreadful eminence. Looking forward to what comes next.

Listen to the wisdom of Mr. Cube. Your dimensions check out, I'd say...
The reflection resolution of your water seems to be at 128 or something low in your scene. There's a setting for that somewhere in your inspector, where you can up that to 1024 or so and the reflections will be of higher quality. And your PC performance will take a hit.
You are totally ready for CF. I rue the fact that CF isn't ready for you. Yet.

Prison Putt-Putt, I love it. Gives new meaning to terms like
He Shanked it,
Being in the Hole,
Guarding the Green,
Laying Up,
He's gonna have a hard time getting out of there.
I suppose the last hole could be "The Green Mile".
Great work K11, hope you get out ...soon.

So much beauty! Well done, Matthew. It's getting harder and harder around here to come up with something that stands out from the - truly spectacular - crowd.
Hence:

Thanks, blammo! I guess I'm feeling more inspired lately to try more ambitious concepts.... I also wanted to get comfortable with an ocean landscape before I attempt Pebble Beach. Watching the Open last week made me realize that I've never really tried to do a course in a real links style.
That long sandy path down the right side is going to be a railway, as soon as I learn how to put one in. I thought maybe easy roads had a railroad tool but I can't remember. I've got 12 holes on one side of it and six on the other.... there's a whole bunch of quirk with unbalanced, asymmetrical nines (34-37 for par 71) and a couple of holes where being aggressive requires hitting over the corner of out-of-bounds areas.
I'm working without the pot bunker utility at this point.... the course plays okay, but I think it would be much better with the pot bunker tool, so I'll probably wait to release this until I have it available.
