Appreciate the response Kablammo.

Honestly, it could probably be more effective minus the commentary and condescension of your "sighing" and "trying to stay composed".

Sorry that any conversation around your decisions is so "beneath you"...
Thanks anyhow

LOL!  I was starting to feel like I was watching an afternoon soap opera with all that drama.  :D

The boards are getting salty as of late. Must be all that ocean water evaporating around here. Looks good K11. Textures with burn out areas is bad ass. I would like to see a bit of lava rock and some darkish off terrain to add to the vibe. I have Hanuama Cliffs for FSX and it's fictional but the dark rock gives a nice contrast to the greenery.

I can appreciate the saltiness a little bit.

I put a course out and immediately get 100 complaints about bad drops.

Re: Salty

I simply asked basic questions about coloring/inspiration for the tropical course..

I was not the one to insert "color commentary" about my mood during a response.

Things are more likely to go off the rails when unnecessary "tone" gets added to posts.

Sorry Buck wasn't really solely directed at you. Just a general observation of recent posts by many. Figured you've been around long enough to know that's K11 being K11. Just read a few of his 4000 posts. Doesn't need any defenders and he'll tell you he doesn't want them either but if he was an ass wipe, he wouldn't bother to give you a thoughtful response after his presumed disinterest in your question. As a designer, he is the most valuable resource on this forum due to his willingness to share in abundance. I think if you give it some time and understand his intentions, you'll warm up to his irritableness.

Perhaps I'm incredibly naive but I thought the sigh and 'trying to stay composed' comments were directed at the frustrations with the Unity/PG relationship not the K11/Buck relationship. K11 regularly airs his frustration about the disparity between Unity and what we see in game.

I certainly would never assume that the topic was 'beneath him'. I find it an odd assumption to make, not that it matters. Nothing does lol.

If I misinterpreted that, I apologize.

Read to me like it was "frustrating" for K11 to answer any questions about his choice of colors for the Tropical look.

Easy to misinterpret text, no question.  Forums, emails, messaging of all kinds....etc

I love desert courses. Is this a new deisgn or another Links conversion? Thanks for all of your hard work-especially on Blackwolf Run-River Course.

This one's completely from scratch. I actually started it late last year and shelved it for awhile because I didn't know what to do about the planting. I'm still working through it a bit.

I'm trying to clear a couple of originals I've sat on for awhile off my plate so I can focus on Royal Melbourne and Pebble Beach and I thought we could use another desert course in the great golf cyberverse.

Concept Art - Terra Firma CC - Canyon build - video shows some basic ideas. Hole 3 probably most complete. Terrain contours simply suggestions. Somewhat cartoony at this point with textures. Obviously, would only improve with time. I envision this more as the back nine. Front nine playing lower in the canyon through trees and the river that weaves through canyon base. Would be fun to see if any cave type holes would be possible. Would have to create large mesh top and not sure how that would play out. Not much foliage but wouldn't see much more than bushes and a few grasses in the upper stretches of the canyon. Tees would be Championship (for mouse clickers), Tournament and Member (for simulator play) and Ladies (for my son!) and possibly Challenge. I can foresee many bad drops and impossible lies. Like most concept drawings, who knows if this will ever hit the market.

Making quite the mess here trying to embed a video...oh well, here's the link - https://vimeo.com/174608185

Nice one... You might want to reduce the Fresnel setting in the Layers Library. Your meshes look as though it is at 0.25 - which is the default setting, but a maximum of 0.06 for fairways and greens is more than enough.

I can foresee a multitude of problems with this concept... you have mentioned a few already, but go for it, by all means. Terra Firma is a great name!

Wow..... I hope your construction guys have a good union  :P

Project funded by unknown billionaire who has contracted with several of the groups handling the Qatar World Cup 2022. It is a bit of a political nightmare. As far as plans for traversing the courses, management has been in talks with several Sherpa groups who handle a few of the taller climbs in the world. This is truly a spare no expense project. The plan would be only 1-2 foursomes daily to truly provide that "one with nature" experience on the course. The first few years would be planned as invite only to play. No cellphone signal. No cameras allowed. Meant to exist as a memory.

On a serious note, looking for some advice on off terrain shots. In real life, most off terrain would be "Rehit." Is in course OB possible or only 1 OOB spline? I think the suggestion would be to change settings to have to hit "CONTINUE" after every shot and if shot is "over the edge" to choose rehit. Unless I build each hole as a bit of a separate entity from the others, I can't really see using Water hazards for over the edge except on some select holes. Truthfully, I am planning for the scenery to be intimidating but make more than generous landing space. The greens will be multi-tiered and challenging. The course will not be planned to be brutal from the tee but instead sharpen as approaching the hole. Even the island hole is 60 yards wide which is 2x wider than 17 at Sawgrass. I am intending for the sim guys to have as much fun as well (forced carries not exceeding 180).
