Thank you. Right now I'm working my way in from the borders. Two new features: A perimeter barrier and some weird props:

AcLaC4n.jpg

The perimeter barrier, is designed to keep the terrestrial carnivores (as big as the Coliseum in Rome) out and to allow me to go cheap with all of the landscape beyond. There is an O.O.B hazard staked out a few yards on the inside of the barrier.

srl4kl8.jpg

The weird props (two models, "boob pod" & "dead octopus") will bestow the course with the verticality usually provided by trees. It does not really matter what and why they are, they just are there, simply some questionable eye candy or mere features for the sake having features.

i5q0Uab.jpg

As for the back story behind these babies:

  • They are proof for Blammocorp! illegally mining for precious minerals and rare earths.
  • They are oxygen and hydrogen catalysts for enriching the atmosphere
  • They are high energy disrupter lasers warding off airborne carnivores of the size of Wembley Stadium.

Pick one, I've got more.

Next up: Stellar Skybox, Ooze Material (and water hazards), Terrain Textures, Distant Horizon (auxiliary terrain).

Donald Trump would likely be very interested in the outer barrier.

Just wondering what happens when one of my ball slices finds

it's way into the high energy beams?

I'm liking this terrestrial track more and more and can't

wait for the global and local sounds.

The metallic pods have colliders and the ball will react. The beams have no colliders and no effect on ball flight.

Yep, latest scientific research indicates that the one place Commander Bowman went...

Q56dN2l.png

...was either to or in the vicinity of Xaxnax Borealis. He met up with Lt. Doolittle there, by the way, who just had surfed over after having parked Dark Stars and Bomb 20 two solar systems away.

PpzJ5LI.jpg

It's starting to look. In this case, like a violent and cliche star sky right out of a very poor SciFi comic. Bit of a "Chronicle of Riddick" vibe to it, I'm afraid, but whatever else bedevilled that forgettable movie, the production design of it was solid.

Good luck following your golf ball with your eyes in this sky. I recommend full ball trails on - and I recommend the devs finally add a colour selection to that feature, so that players can make it either neon green or bright red. Of course, players can also switch Dynamic Sky ON and get a very terrestrial sky that will look utterly dreadful.

Should I place a Space Odyssey Monolith seen floating above in the La Grange point? Hm... probably too much.

Thanks, guys. But let's not kid ourselves: This is an off-the-wall specialty course for a stark minority. Most gents playing golf around here are principled chlorophyl addicts who desperately cling to reality. And that is perfectly alright, let me hasten to confirm that: All the power to them, they absolutely deserve be intolerant, unimaginative, narrow-minded, risk-averse and obtuse little squares streamlined to never stand out of the overwhelming majority of uninspired earthlings.

Golfers are sweet folks, but they never spearheaded revolutions, come to think of it, brought about change or forged ahead of the pack - they are essentially docile and humdrum people focussed on short putts, not trailblazers gazing at the stars, therefore worrying about inches and not dreaming about parsecs.

So why do I bother with stuff like that? Well, for one, the main golf player demographic, even now that we are in CF beta, is being catered to by a strong group of very talented designers creating great terrestrial venues while sharing their ideology of voluntary self-restriction to all that already is. They are in excellent hands and will gorge themselves on very skilfully made executions of real course recreations. And that means that I can go after N&N's - novelties and niches, and seek the outer limits of taste, design and feasibility. I have always been accused of being a bit "out there", which is fine with me. Who wants to be "in here" anyway? So while most of you will emotionally stay at home, I can now boldly go where no man has... um... you know...

And with this, say hello to what now is officially called: "The Ooze":

Dq6fRij.jpg

It's a slow trickling, meaty, organic liquid. It's also highly toxic.

LuQ36CL.jpg

It's the Xaxnax equivalent of water, of course. It oozes in a large, central gathering area at the lowest point of the plot and it's there to annoy golfers and swallow their errant balls.

uUUzgY1.jpg

Note how the nearby twin planet of Xaxnax Meridionalis is reflected in the Ooze. I created this effect by applying the textures of my Skybox to the reflection cubemap of the water material.

Not being usually prone to tapping myself on the back, nevertheless the resulting effect pleases me.

While I am typically defined as one of those "principled chlorophyl addicts who desperately cling to reality," your design is so "off the wall" that I cannot wait to play a round. I am not the best golfer on planet Earth but maybe I've got a shot on Xaxnax. Regardless, it will be a fun distraction from the usual. Hopefully, your creativeness encourages others to go a bit off the beaten path. As you've stated, there are plenty of others doing the course replica thing. Hoping you are making several tees or a short set so my little ones can join me on the simulator. Do we know yet what side effects may be caused from drinking the Ooze? I may not be able to prevent them from trying it.

Agree with the above. It's almost so crazy different that I need to play it just for the experience.

This is going to be an insanely bizarre golfing experience.  It looks incredible and I can't wait to hear what kind of sounds you come up with.

Or will it be dead space silent?

The radio tower and sludge sounds from Mulligan Muni were awesome.

Thanks all. There will be a matching - or rather equally bizarre - soundscape, of course.

But whereas the sights and sounds will be alien, and the course shapes a bit swirly and fanciful, the game play itself will be solidly traditional - you might feel a bit underwhelmed actually, since it does not and cannot keep up with the preposterousness of the eye candy.

Mpags, there will be four sets of tees: Championship, Back, Members and Ladies. Plus challenge tees. Your little ones should be able to play and enjoy it.

They should not, however, drink from the Ooze. It's worst side effect, besides nuclear diarrhea, acidic lungs and melting teeth, is hallucinogenic dementia: It will perpetually turn your little ones into shrieking paranoiacs while their frail little souls will be torn to pieces by the illusion of being trapped on an Eagle Transporter orbiting around Moonbase Alpha (Space:1999), forced to listen to the endless drone of Martin Landau's (aka John Koenig) voice explaining to them over the radio all the finer points of coaching actors in line with the Lee Strasberg method during the 2009 Total Picture Seminar.

If you love them, staple their cute little pork traps shut.

Meteors are a great idea. However, due to the composition of the upper atmospheric layers of that world with its alien mix of unusual chemical components such as methane, freon etc, they do not burn and combust, but instead ice up and break apart into tiny shards and fragment, creating harmless meteoric blizzards (more like icy drizzles) when they reach the surface. I'm afraid your excellent proposal is a bit too earth-centric.

The lower layers of the atmosphere have been terraformed to accommodate humans, space suits are no longer required. And it goes without saying that a flux capacitor, the trusty Swiss Army Knife of every space traveller, is an optional, yet strongly recommended bit of gear no astro-golfer should ever leave home without.
