Have been looking at Unity, but it's a very steep curve for someone of my advancing years

I do keep looking every few days when I have spare time. Just don't want to cut back on my Links play as it's very easy to lose my powerstroke swing. Also have to work and watch 5 or 6 series on tv plus reading on my kindle.  It's a pity men cannot multi-task  ;)

The 6th hole, par 4

3 more to go then it is fine tuning and hopefully some play testing some day soon...

I love the grasses Adriaan and the course as a whole is looking fantastic. In regards to the fairways, the mow lines are all in the same direction, is it possible to map them in different directions with unity or CF?

The grasses are fantastic!

Unique, afaik you could clone a second fairway layer where the textures are rotated by 90%, so that the designer can choose which set of mow lines works better for each hole. But seamless textures being square, that's the only option.

It's not possible to align the mow lines to each individual hole.

Unique, you can use an overlay to run the mow lines anyway you want and even follow the fairways on holes, this is however a more advanced technique but certainly more than possible if you want to delve more deeply.

...Or, delving less deeply, it just sprung to my mind that you could easily create textures with diagonal mowlines and get 4 fairway variations with 0, 45, 90 and 135 degrees mow lines - which should give you a decent approximation.

Mike's suggestion is a lot better, but requires some truly deep, deep delving imo.

if it lands in the fairway its a fade, if it lands in the rough its a slice. ;)

More of the same. The 8th hole, short par 3. It shares the fairway with the 7th hole so still the green complex of the 7th to do.

Very nice :)

Love the little splashes of colour that the flowers give...

I opened you image in photo bucket to get the big version, highfade. Are these flowers connected to a stem at all or just floating dots of color on a billboard? The effect is beautiful, mind you, so no complaints, just curiosity.

Also, how on earth did you get your distant background to look blurry? Did I somehow miss this trick in Unity?

Good spot K11.

Those are just single flower pics I grabbed from the net and pasted them in one image with a little bit of flip and perspective tooling in Gimp.  I plant them between the grasses so you won't notice the lack of stems... well obviously not working  :D.   I not very good with Gimp so it seems too complicated to do the stems.

I don't know about the background except the usual fog and the tree billboarding.

Weird blurriness... Thanks, highfade. I only got the idea because I, some time ago, tried something similar. I have not outruled resorting to that particular trick in my design yet, it's just that my project theme is not so much of the springtime-flowery kind.

And I believe your flowers are working well, as long as you place your billboards far enough from the playing area. Of course, if a dramatically stray shot lands in there, some players might find out and complain that their immersion did suffer from this. Me, I will always value sheer beauty more highly than slavish realism. By all means: go with it!

Okay, so I went and tried some different fog settings - in the spirit of research. The first image (10th) is with a very light, almost white fog, the second with a a very dark one, about 65% towards pitch black. I think I prefer the dark fog. Opinions?

Here is the link to my photobucket library

- for those who want to look at all my images in their original size - which is considerably larger (That's right, the yellow text is the link, buddy). Just pick one, click on it and then on the little lupe in the bottom right corner. Feel free to look at my library and the images I have accrued in the past couple months. If you want to. If not, let it be and have a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious week-end nevertheless.

I like the second one, especially the way the flag stands out in the sunlight.  Very realistic, reminds me of some of the courses we play in Northern Minnesota.  You should be very proud of the work you have done.  It is first class, all the way.

I think the snow is starting to let up!

I notice there is no cup on the green, when will they add that to CF/Unity?

You can position your pin locations (up to 8) in CF and then PG reads the positions and adds the cup, flagstick etc. At the moment K11 doesn't have PG so I guess he has added a flag manually.
