If I fiddle with the elevation, it will be with minus value - because Xaxnax Minor s a bit of an opposite world.
Or I should rather say "Xaxnax Borealis" - this celestial body just has been re-christened by the GAG, the Galactic Astronomer's Guild. It does sound a bit grander, admittedly...
Now then, how does one design an alien land golf course? Honestly! A new language of shapes of functions needs to be developed, one that on one hand is visually completely different from earthly golf and capable of immediately, deeply offending all our stout and purist fellow men who suffer from imagination deficiency (please donate generously to the charities fighting this crippling disease). But also one that allows for the pursuit and exertion of the game of golf the way terrestrial golfers are used to. It's tricky...
I have pottered about a bit, searching for the right mix.
The greens will be rather large, but multitiered and segmented, as in: One large green that for all purposes is a cluster of half a dozen small greens.
The fairways will be generous but bulbous and bulging. A reasonably flat lie will be hard to find, getting into a good position will be harder than it looks.
But the dominant feature will be something else: we call it the "glax".
Glax is short for "glassy rocks". A very strange, indigenous form of mineral, prevalent all over this world. It erodes into bright powder which we use for sand hazards, but is very hard to remove. So we had to try and make the course snake around the glax deposits on the plot.
In other wor(l)ds, most of the holes are not shaped by human desire, but pre-ordained by the open spaces which the glax left us to play golf on. And this will make for a slightly fragmented overall look. The base terrain is not yet, but will be, correspondingly glaxified.
The short grass won't be short grass either, but an artificially made substance designed to replicate its properties. There is more to tell you about, like the 60ft high perimeter wall or the central slime pit, but that will be for later.
Right now, progress is exceedingly slow and frustrating, because CF keeps conking out on me - supposedly I'm doing something that is too extreme for it to handle it properly. That is rather disappointing, but in a way it's also an encouraging sign.
Mulligan Municipal will be released later this weekend, I have forward all necessary data to the powers that be. So that one should prove that I can play nice and be on my best behaviour as a designer capable of creating something simple and gentle. Xaxnax Borealis should be a different beast altogether: It is destined, pardon the mix of metaphors, to be a real mother of a bad boy.

I did follow your advice, Neal. The doc tells me it's going to get worse before it gets better.
Well, you get the picture(s)...

Can't wait to see the Club-Station, I'm
assuming there will be transporters to
zap me to each tee and the 19th Hole.
On a different subject, sort of. I was
perusing the older postings and came across
this gem. Is it still on your radar?

The Club-Rocket, you mean? It will be a shuttle craft on a landing pad behind 18, in the middle of the big slime pit. It's the vessel golfers take to reach the course and leave it again after their round. Like the radio tower at Mulligan, it will also double as a tall, looming landmark.
Maitland's Neck is one of a few dozen design studies I made at the onset of my CF adventures. It's technically not dead, but let's just say that if it ever came back to life it would be the scariest zombie you could ever imagine.

Did I see the glowing eyes of Sand People?
Maybe not, just hoping we don't have any
trouble with tribbles.
Xcellent work K11, looks quite the adventure.

There is, some may find it hard to believe, good and inspiring SciFi to be enjoyed beyond Star Trek, Star Wars or the lesser manifestations of their spinoffs. Or BSG. Or anywhere else in cinemas. Or in TV shows. They are basically all very poorly written family soap operas glammed up with SFX bling. That newest Star Wars movie, uh.... how do I put it delicately? Hm... there is no way to put it nicely, so let's just say that it's really, really, really, really, really, really not good and even a lot worse than that. Things need to happen inside their moment, or they better not happen at all. The Force should have a long nap.
There's so much I could do and add to this course to cram it stock full with mainstream culture references, so please, kindly understand why I won't: To me, that would be too darn facile and painfully unclever...
That said, thank you very much for your kind words.

Any chance of seeing TinTin,Milou and Haddock joing up with Tara on this course ???

Good man, Ola! And excellent shout, I was actually very much tempted to plant the timelessly iconic TinTin Moon Rocket on the launch pad island inside the Ooze.
I still haven't dismissed this entirely, its sleek minimalism is absolutely gorgeous. But right now I'm leaning a bit more towards a Perry Rhodan kind of ship design.
Perry Rhodan is sooo deliciously retro. My Glob, has it been all of 40 years since... Immortals, Mutants, ships that would dwarf the Death Star, noble Atlantians... Ah, it was so horribly, pulp-fictionally preposterous! What a cultic amalgam of childhood fantasies and unashamed, hyper-epic space opera...
Decisions, decisions...
