Oh, optimal segue into surreal textures right there. Talking of which...

 

 

...Mulligan Municipal is getting there slowly. New features added are raised platforms on brick walls, serving as shelters and waiting areas. If there's one thing you do on a municipal golf course, it's waiting for your turn and doing nothing while waiting. So between each green and the next tee, there will be a small leisure zone for players to idle in relative comfort.

I love the effect of all those square angles, horizontal and vertical lines added to the softly undulating landscape - they feed off each other, methinks, the artificial reinforcing the natural and vice-versa. They also provide a human size reference throughout the round.

 

 

As far as invisible, technic innovations go, I have finally mastered the png-cutout workpath of the texture map. Look at the bannisters above, or at the ceiling decoration, and you will see that these are simple 2D cutouts - it would have cost too many polygons to recreate these in 3D.

The platform comes at a low price of 190 tris, the gazebo-cum-shelter costs 312 tris. That's a fair deal - and an invitation to place many of their clones across the entire golf course.

 

 

What else? Yeah, there's trees and bushes now. Old self-made ones with the Unity tree creator. They look cheap. They are. Look, I want great-looking trees that do not hurt performance as much as the next man, mind you, and I want them out of nowhere without me having to lift a finger to get my hands on perfect models, and free of charge on top of that - but from where I'm standing, the stark reality is that this simply isn't on.

I'm strongly considering to delete Oasis Lodge, tbh. There was a moment in time when it seemed important, but right now that moment has gone.

Instead, I'm currently eyeing building a golf course on an alien planet called "Xaxnax Minor". The atmosphere is breathable and Blammocorp! Space Division is currently surveying the surface for suitable locations... What's your policy on half-crab and half-squid telepathic creatures with shimmering butterfly wings working as your caddie?

Nope! But they come with comfy chairs for the enjoyment of both. Rarely has there been a place where the US national motto "Beer me!" has been burped more enthusiastically. And we all know that women will never resist neither this chant nor the type of men who sing it...

American Beer... (smug European snort of disdain)  hm...wonder if I should add outdoor grills...

 

 

Of course, these trappings were not payed for by Mulligan Municipal. They come from a nursery with garden furniture outlet that went bust recently - and were pilfered from there by the locals before the repo people showed up.

And if you look precisely at the mock art-deco bench in the foreground, the one with the fake cast-iron parts actually made out of grade D plastic in Taiwan, you will see that it is made entirely of cutouts, 2D bits arranged into a 3D semblance. 18 tris for such a bench! These are pure background props, I won't even add a collider to them. It's all smoke and mirrors, folks!

 

Hehe, I remembered just now where I got the term "comfy chair" from: Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!

You have certainly set the benchmark for outdoor accessories.

I wouldn't install grills, but if you want real BBQ you'll need

a large Smoker and a good supply of apple wood and a little

mesquite, with at least a couple of chest full of European Disdain,

and a plate of Mountain Oysters.
