Meanwhile, far away out in the sticks...

Csbulc2.jpg

CF meshes are done. When I say wide fairways, I mean: Wide! Look at them, not the usual version of slim claustrophobes, no, fat and happy fairway maggots begging you to hit them with your unerring rhythm stick.

QSGSRGI.jpg

So that's it from there and for now. These next days I will return to Five Sisters to weigh and integrate the beta feedback that has accumulated over the past two weeks. After that, I'll have a nice little place to return to.

K11

I do like your course layouts- not just the amazing back story or the immaculate details, I like the way you create holes that allow more than one way of playing them

I also do like your short par 4's- a lot of courses get a bit mundane with so many holes over 400yrds

Keep up T'good work

I hope the Member or Forward Tees are friendlier than the 485 yard par 4 Back Tees.   :)

Hey that's only one hole and it's downhill. And 2500 feet above sea level.

;)

Is anyone else reporting bad drops?

Not sure if your comment was adressed at me, zmax, since you quoted Matt commenting on me. Sorry if it wasn't, but if it was, let me state that Mulligan Municipal will have rather unusual shorter short tees... on longer holes. The short holes being reasonably short enough to be in range for most regular golf players.

I really had to force myself to be exceedingly nice and without designer's malice untoward computer golf players of all corners, be they sim or PC. I would wish for MM to be a good little confidence-builder course where players can enjoy a round without pressure, perhaps use it for practice (Attention: new practice game mode incoming) due to its flatness, or try out taking their game to the next level in a harder difficulty. What I do not want is for MM to ever become a great, a fierce, a historic, a seminal, a splendid, a championship or a deadly serious golf course. We have enough of these already, some made by me.

That said, I do remember from my real golfing days rather many par 4s that were out of reach for me as 18 handicapper - at least if I played the percentages and did not take enormous risks from the tees, which invariably would lead into disaster. I used to think of these buggers as par 4.5's. So, if some of the shorter sim players may run into a golf hole that is too long for them, I reckon they simply will have to suck it up and play it as though it were real. It would not be okay if every par 4 were like this, but the occasional par 4.5 surely must reflect the golfing experience of many sim players.

Yes, an occasional 4.5 or 3.5 hole is fine.  Biggest issues for Sim play is yardage and fairway widths.  Having to hit driver and then a wood/hybrid/long iron  hole after hole is not fun and could limit play for the older folks.  It's a tough task for course designers for sure to balance Sim and pc.  I think I read somewhere that 98% of amateur golf's have a handicap of 20 or higher....:)

I agree. I promise to tap into my own, checkered past - and to me standing on a real course, with a 3 wood in my hand for every tee shot on long holes, and a 50% chance of finding the fairway somewhere 210 to 230y ahead of me. I carried a driver in my bag, but I sprayed my balls into a different postal code with it, and hitting it longer than my 3W was an art form I never mastered. Come to think of it, Mulligan Municipal is a bit of a late gift from present me to that pitiful past me...

Now that this is settled, update: There will be, well, not quite water, but some sort of liquid danger out on the course at Mulligan Municipal. It will not really come into play on most holes, except 12, where carrying the hazard or keeping it safe will be the hole-defining decision to make, and it will come in the shape of one long, dead-straight central ditch bisecting the entire plot:

3yHpC7b.jpg

Nobody knows what really flows through that ditch. It's coming from an industrial area 3 miles upstream  - I use the term "stream" loosely - and has been built to quickly dessicate agricultural land further up in case of flash floods. Agricultural lands being kept productive by lots and lots of fertiliser. The gents at Mulligan Municipal call it the Monsanto Moat -  and drinking from that muddy, polluted soup is not recommended.

8vwL3oq.jpg

On the plus side, nobody in the PG community can ever complain that the reflections are all wrong, that it should be more transparent and see-through or that the water edges are too straight and fake: That is opaque and unreflective gooey slop down in that ditch, and this Cloaca Maxima is contained by straight walls. So that is one smart way to deal with the systemic flaws of water planes, if I may say so myself.

Have a nice week-end!

Ok, That does it, Blammocorp has once again

invaded a pristine landscape, this time with

a gelatinous goo that flows into who knows what,

and most likely originates from a taco stand near

Pommeroys' Pitch and Putt. Next thing you know

we will be playing adjacent to a Nuclear power plant

where we're sure to see five legged deer, and picking

6 leaf clovers. Count me in!! I just love unidentifiable sludge.

I can already smell the acrid fumes

belching from the cooling towers.

Don't forget to place a few blaring

alarm speakers that get tested every
