You guys know there is a setting in the UI that allows you to adjust both the tracer and the 'catch' time of the follow camera? Generally lower settings allow you to fly with the ball while the higher settings have more of a 'ball fly off and then camera catch up' look to them. At least now you can choose and also the camera doesn't bounce with the ball which many people used to find off putting.

Play around with the settings in the game options and see how it goes.

Had not experimented with those settings.  Now that I have the Follow Camera Catch Time adjusted to zero (0) the visual experience of the ball flight is better. However, the ball abrubtly falls out of the sky near the end of it's flight.  Best analogy I can think of is a super strong updraft that holds the ball in the air for a second and then vanishes, cuasing the ball to suddenly drop from the sky.

Crusher, try setting the follow camera catch time to 7 or 8. For me, it eliminates the 'updraft' effect completely. I think we both have the same graphics card and Nvidia 970. Try it, you may like it.

In order to get around the bouncing camera view on landing that many complained about PG now uses 2 camera views to create a smoother landing.  What you are noticing is the shift from the 1st camera view during the ball flight and the switch to the 2nd camera view just prior to landing.  Play with the catch time settings to find what works best for you.

I just tried Richard's suggestion but that puts the ball nearly out of view at the top of the screen, a much higher arc.  I have decided I like having that setting at zero (0) - works for me

Let's address the flight cams.  I would rather see a follow cam that does not rotate 45 to 90 degress while the ball is rolling to a stop.  I prefer to have the follow cam stay the same distance behind the ball, say 20, 30 or 40  feet from ball strike to landing and rolling to a stop.

Other than the "bouncing cam" this was perfect in PG before the U5.  Whatch how nicely the ball is followed, the smooth flight and then a quck transition to the Post Shot menu after the ball stops rolling.  This was simple and impressive.

I like the new update, improvements are easy to see and the game is heading in the good direction for sure. The game core is extremely nice and now I think it's time to move forward to make the game more fun to play with the following items:

1. The courses need to looks less empty by adding wildlife, items on the courses like golf cart , like players forwards of us or others holes.

2. Add one daddy with the name of the player on the back, something like in Tiger Woods.

3. Have the choice to play the course in tournament setting with all details, crowds, chose season also would be nice.

4. Add commentary, nice birdie, etc etc etc

5. Fix the golf clubs, size from driver to 7 woods.

6. Ability to edit our golfer distances for each clubs, ball flight, few swing motion.

7. 3D Rough.

8. Ability to create a season with full customization.

9. Divots, Splash sands... The ball need to look to be on a golf tee...

This is my comments...

I totally agree with crusher. The only way I can see the ball fly at all is with catch time set to 0 or 1 as I play with ball tracer disabled. Or am I missing soemthing?

At this point, I use a catch setting of 7 and then set a very small comet tail to add visibility of the ball without it looking like a real comet. Just a suggestion.

My friend.  The most important part of the game is a "virtual experience" when striking the ball and how it reacts.  All the "stuff" you mention is back-burner stuff.  What we need as players is your personal experience as you strike the ball, watch it behave in the air and on the ground.

Without a stablized ball strike and landing i.e. drives, chips, flops, fairway irons/woods and putting the esthetics of the game are very secondary.

If you are a true virtual golfer then performance of the game and ball physics would be most important.  Not a squirrel running across the course or Feherty telling you how well you hit the ball. ;)

I play with catchtime at 8 and comet to 0.04.

However, I like to see the ball take off and don't need to see it close-up every inch of the way. If it goes out at the top of the screen in usually comes back.

Turn on the comet and try setting the comet trail length to 0.02 - 0.04.  This produces a very short trail that helps you see the ball from a distance without it actually loojing like a comet trail.

Crusher, I don't get your criticism of capitaine25 considering your endless posts about the follow cam which has nothing to do with physics of the game, not to mention follow cam is not realistic at all.

I only say this, because I have a bad feeling that they are tweaking the physics so people who play with the follow cam will be happy. If this is so, this game isn't going to be what I thought it was.

No, AwYea, they aren't tweaking physics for people who use the follow cam.  They have been tweaking the cameras, though.

Personally and I have said so to the devs. I loved the Follow Cam from U4, the bounce did not bother me at all and the cam followed the ball all the way to the landing. No stopping 20ft in the air like it does now.. I don't care about the small amount of camera bounce that we used to have. This way is not worth it in my very very honest opinion.. But, who am I ...

I think it's possible that the camera bounce "bothers me" level could be impacted by screen size maybe?

On my 32" screen and with how close I am to it, I love the immersion...but it was indescribably distracting and immersion killing to have the bounce.  Was literally awful (to me anyways).

I think lots of people sort of inherently expect their golf game to have some of the smooth polish that a TV presentation has, which I think is fair, and the whole concept of the camera "bouncing" with the ball has sort of a "wrong feeling" to it.

Whether the camera is an actual camera view or your eyes in real life, we just aren't wired to have the viewpoint moving around and mirroring a bouncing ball (imagine if a basketball or soccer game tracked the ball's every move in a really connected way....instant barf)

My 2 cents.  I like anything that is not a stock follow cam.  I've been seeing those since Leaderboard golf.  Boring!  I really like the dynamic nature of the current follow cam, I like the swivel to green so I can see what I'm left with.

That being said, perhaps, we can get options.  We could choose to have either the cool new Crow-Cam or we could choose to have the boring old Axe-Cam ;)

Gee thanks Crow.  The only thing I don't like about the new follow cam is how it stops short 20ft in the air, then you have to find your ball. Now, I know why they did this and the rest of the ride on the new cam is beautiful if it only didn't suddenly stop.. But hey, I don't want to be called "boring and old" anymore, so I will learn to live with what we have and maybe in the future we can get rid of the abrupt stop..

I mean here you are following the ball perfectly then Ka-boom you stop dead... But at least the cam does then start following the ball again..

Buck, sorry, I didn't feel like I was watching a basketball game with the old Follow cam but evidently, enough of the community was so it got changed, I will learn to live with it...

Thanks for the replies.  Crow remember, somethings that were built years ago, were just built so dam well, that they live on even today... ;)

I don't want that either, just a steady cam watching the ball all the way, no sudden stops before the ball even hits the ground and no bouncing up and down.. Of course, the bounce of old was not as bad as you describe it.. But, I digress and will glady follow the community into the future...
