Has something been done to the chipping by the Devs after the initial release of the new update? I've been told that they have and now you can't use any of your lower clubs(7,8,9 irons or PW). You can only use lofted wedges. I can only use my 56 and 64 degree wedges now after being able to use other clubs after the initial release.

lol...Brilliant...a frame rate of about 2 per second...and a lag in the meter of almost a full second.....awesome update....I think the impossible is happening..wgt is looking efficient

Could you post your computer specs please?

I was one of the testers, why?

Because Im wondering how this went through testing without the chipping acceleration and wedge approach spin issues not getting reported.  These 2 things are too major for a golf update released after testing.

Maybe Im wrong, maybe they were reported and they chose to push it through and change this on the fly.  Or maybe no one is seeing this as screwy.

What makes you think they weren't reported. Do you actually think the devs have the time to address "every single" aspect of the game that's discussed and isn't working perfectly in each update? And do you really think you're the first to notice that there may be too much acceleration on chip shots. This has been discussed a thousand times. You have people clambering to get it out, get it out, get it out now!!! So when it does come out and there's an aspect that isn't perfect should anyone really be surprised?

I can spin the crap outta the ball or I can land it and have it roll. Same with the chipping. It takes practice.

not feeling the love i'm afraid...performance is chronic at best and i dont have low spec...used to be able to record with previous build can barely play this as it is yet alone record...chipping seems inconsistent to me and getting varying results..performance picks up if i play at 7pm but that does not surprise me as the graphical effects at that time setting are laughable, try it and see... its like going back 20 years in visuals...so disappointed, just feels like one big mess to me.

If you read my post you would see that I questioned if I was wrong and it got reported and pushed through anyway.  I was curious and asked.

And I never wanted the update put through unless it was clean, or at least close to clean.  I liked the old version and had no issue with it and several times said I would wait months for update if it meant a close to clean update.

2 major shot types full wedge and chips being this screwy is pretty major IMO and this shouldve held off the update.

I get lots of stuttering and low frame rates now and I have a pretty powerful system.  Short game ball physics not realistic. Had a putt go into cup, hit back of cup, come back out straight down the same line it was stroked in on.

Well Purple, you are wrong like others said, it was reported by the testers and that's really all we can do. I'm no expert here just trying to help out and we really don't know the bigger picture as far as PG making decisions on when and what to fix.  I think the Dev's are doing a super job and working there tales off. I'm sure you do too... They revamped a lot of stuff and now they have a working game that they can fine tune...

I'm sure you meant no harm or malice or any disrespect. Let's all try to report things and suggest things like we are trying to help the game along and things would be better received I think.. I hope.. I know..

Of course this depends on really what the Dev's think. I haven't followed this aspect of the game to much as I was occupied with other aspects, so if the Devs really believe there is a problem with  it, or, we just need to get better at it because the mathematics are right on, we will have to see and maybe they will respond here.

Thank You

Peace

Remember the primary purpose of this update was the engine conversion from U4 to U5. We not only got that, we got a number of new enhancements. The developers have already indicated that the plan from this point forward is to tweak, refine and add more features and courses. So please continue during EA to post issues and concerns, but always try to do it in a polite and civil manner.

Note: the above comments are not to suggest that the posts in this topic are not civil, but believe me there are other posts today that are anything but.

Yes youre trying to hole out on hole 2 green when playing hole 3 :)

Hmmm. So that's why I shoot such bad scores.

LOL, I do think that you were on the wrong hole. The reason I'm laughing is that I had that happen to me once during testing and was appropriately harassed by my fellow testers.

It's definitely embarrassing. But, maybe now I will learn to use the mini-map a little better.

I haven't played the update yet, but is it possible they've made blading a shot possible?

Yes, you are correct ! :)  It was posted previously by Andrew ? IIRC. This is the reason for peoples ranting on chipping physics IMO.

Has something been done to the chipping by the Devs after the initial release of the new update? I've been told that they have and now you can't use any of your lower clubs(7,8,9 irons or PW). I don't like this "feature" at all. I am a bump n run type of guy (the ladies hate me for it lol). I tried chipping with my 7i & was saddened to see the option gone :(

I think at this point we need to realize there are still issues with the early access. Let's use the bug reporting forum to document the issues we're having. Post system specs, steps to replicate the issue, screenshots, videos, etc. whatever will help define the problem, so it can be documented and fixed.

Let's all work together to help make this the best damn golf game possible. We'll all have much more fun, if we do! :)

it is on by default. So if he didn't change it there is no way now to help him on that.

It was not on by default, I had to turn it on.

I could not get horizontal swing to work reliably at all.  When I switched back to vertical swing, the problems went away immediately.  I went to the driving range with horizontal swing and the numbers looked good, but the ball would not go.  I hit one with 100%+, 1[T], On Plane and .25 and the ball just dribbled a few yards.  I hit some vertical swing shots with numbers slightly worse and the ball took off just fine.

On occasion when putting, the ball travel would not show so you could not see how the ball broke and how close it came to the hole.  Following cam was not helpful on the green, so I would like to see that disabled for putting as an option.

After many rounds of new update a few added thoughts.

Drives: Not much to say, seem normal.  Snap tends to sway more if missed on wind side but can be corrected by purposely missing snap opposite the wind.

Approach shots:  Pretty decent roll out and physics look right on long irons and hybrids.  3 Wd sticks a bit much but guess that might be a green setting as I test on Normal hardness, 10 stimp.

Most wedges and 9 iron sometimes in this range can create an overspin.  Looks so unnatural that the camera cant even keep up with it.  Seen it on alot of shots and cant tell what causes it as it happens on upslope and downslope landing.  Even side slope at times.

Chipping:  Actually think 64W plays chips pretty accurately as I look closely and relearn the shot.  But 60W a bit accelerated on landing and 56W+ chips take off like they have legs on landing.  Very unnatural looking.

Pitching:  Noticing these grab pretty tight on landing, seems like a very soft landing unless you club up.  Havent noticed anything weird yet but havent tried all pitches.

Flops:  Havent tried enough to list much yet.

Putting:  I really like the freedom of the putting speed.  With the accelerated putting kind of off, it seems to break very hard at your feet and stimp even at 10 pulls it hard off the putter blade.  But very learnable and consistant which is helpful.  Hole seems to suck more (in a good way :).  Some pins that are on downslopes a soft putt will actually stop, unlike before.  But noticed strange occurances putting up steep hills.  If you putt up a steep hill and miss it can actually roll back to your feet, which didnt happen before in same spots.

Meter seems to be no issue reading and the slower speed on putts inside 6 feet helps.  Still think it might not be long enough but havent had a putt over the max yet.

Putting from fairway will travel 17 feet of fw max at full meter.  If it doesnt reach the green by then it will stop short of green.  Hope this changes in higher stimps as St Andrews might be around the corner.

Random issues:  Pin can pinball a ball 20-30 feet if you hit it with a short chip, even at slow speed.  A bit frustrating, but nice to have a pin i guess.

Trees are back for revenge.  Noticed if you touch a tree or even a tip of a tree it just about stops the ball and floats to its base.  Thought trees were 80% air, but I guess after several months of 99% air they owe us a lashing.

All and all, I would enjoy this update a ton if excessive spin and chip acceleration were fixed in next patch or sooner.  Graphics great.

The new information displays are nice. The driving and putting are nice.  I find the ball in flight looks like a humming bird going up and down and floating before ball lands.  But when it lands, the ball seems to drop abruptly.

I would have to say at this point that the only game-play change that impresed me is the Putting. It's tougher and that's a good thing. Everthing else makes this game IMHO seem way off kilter after adapting it to U5.

I think if it stays this way we will see more players asking for the version before U5 but include the putting change and a few of the information menus/displays.

Edit: I forgot to mention that at Ultra High the graphics seem a bit lighter and crisper.  That's a plus.

Home run. looks great and plays well. went to the driving range and adjusted some distances and ready to go. I'm playing on a higher setting as well with no stutter.  Where's the beer cart girl?
