The chipping animation/swing just seems all wrong for what the ball is doing.
I've found that chipping short distances to the hole looks poor. The animation sorta scoops the ball up rather than hitting through it and the stick action is like a snatch, devoid of any feel. The camera moves from the ani to the ball much too quickly. However, I find that much longer chips i.e. hole is on the far side of the green, isn't bad at all. It's liveable with.

The game updated today. Anyone know why? I can’t find any notes about.
Uh oh - only 2 or 3 updates left and then it's off to work on 2K22/23

This was posted a couple days ago on the 2K21 forums, it went to the PS4 1st, think all the other platforms got it today. Had to re-calibrate my swing afterwards as it was all over the place post patch, may or may not be related.

Is that an accurate representation of how most of the courses look now? Because the transitions from fairway to first cut to heavier rough look so much better and more natural in this screenshot. Quite an improvement graphically...
Yes i added a generous layer of light rough to help out with the more difficult tempo, it looks as it appears, but looks a bit less attractive with the sun at your back, one of the trade offs that perfect golf never suffers with. The 3DG also helps the transition.

The transitions and 3d grass are a lot better now.
Bunkers are still really poor, despite their continual efforts to cover that aspect up with a myriad of tricks.
And as Doggs said above - the lighting is what it is... It can look amazing with the right settings and angles and truly dreadful in many situations also.

The lighting isn’t good when the sun is in front of you. It makes the whole scene too dark but I’ve adjusted the graphics settings on my TV, which has helped.
To be honest, I’m quite enjoying the game. I’ve started my career, and although my scores weren’t good to start with, I’m gradually getting used to the swing and slowly improving. Most courses that I’ve played have been very good, just one or two have been oversaturated with colour making them look unrealistic.
Bunker lips aren’t as good as PG but they are an improvement on previous iterations of the game. The sand looks very good though as does the ball trail.
I still don’t think you should be able to play a splash shot from anywhere apart from the bunkers so I’m not using that option. It would be better without it, which would force players to use partial shots when pitching.
I’ve yet to start creating my own courses. I first wanted to see if the game would be worth the time and effort and I think it is. I don’t even find John as annoying as in previous versions.

I think what I realized after my 2K21 testing is that Perfect Golf does everything I’m looking for.
The PG courses look better and more natural and more distinct in my opinion as well.
I also still prefer the gameplay and controller swing in Perfect golf.
HB has continued to tack things on to their swing yet I still don’t think they've made it as good or better than RTS-C.
It keeps getting more complicated for sure, but I still much prefer what I can do and how simple it is to interact with that power in RTS-C
It was fun to try 2K21 a bit and I’m glad they are continuing to work on it.
I'm just the wrong customer as I'm very happy with what PG offers for what my needs are.
Granted - when I’m looking for the career mode type of thing I still prefer to fire up TW 14 above all these options

I took a bit of a gamble when I bought 2K21 as I too felt PG was all I needed. I also prefer PG’s controller swing but the downswing tempo gives an additional facet to how the ball behaves off the club. I still think it needs a little work but it’s not too bad.

The PG swing was the best but let's face it the game is stale and boring unless you play exclusive head to head which I don't.
Posted 02 September 2020 - 01:49 AM
Nothing beats how well done the controller swing is in PG, its granular to 1 degree at a time and tour pro offers a challenge that i could never master 100% My goal with the PG swing was to consistently hit no more than 2 off plane, i managed that at one point, and although it had no tempo to worry about, you better adopt a virtual one to stay consistent.
The only negative with controller was the fact that it was dropped into the game and left without any thought of refining it further. The putting turned off plenty of potential players who were not interested in M & KB play, putting is too hard and overly sensitive to be enjoyable, of course i stuck with it and got good but there is no doubt its the number one reason that controller players are few here, its a shame they failed to improve upon it.

Greens, you know you can choose the conditions you play in, if the lighting is a bit dark or that sun a bit low, just play clear midday or something. I assume you know this, just checking.
