It's the one element that i mentioned in my review that has not changed, pitch is the same but at least it benefits from partial shot, chipping however, feels as was in previous games. You do get the odd chip here and there that feels more natural but most of the time its clunky and devoid of feel.

One feel i got from all TGC titles was the feeling of playing on auto pilot and i actually started to feel that here too until today, i'm playing a PGA career event on pro and even though i'm hitting slight fasts and slows along with perfects, i dont feel like im being challenged enough even though i'm not leading the event.
So, i go into options and turn off elevation and distance information, i also turn off aim marker and scout cam then play from the book. Playing like this got my attention right away, it's great! I went and played Cypress point and managed -5 and i felt like i really earned it.
The options in this game are its one redeeming feature, without them this would consigned to the bowels of my steam library already.

The entire short game in TGC was all wrong with unrealistic trajectories and absolute zero feel in the swing. How can a fast back swing on a chip translate to more power? That is just one example.
Another one that really caught my attention in TGC was that you could pitch it 115 yards using a 5 iron with the trajectory of a 9 iron. Try that in real golf! I was hoping they would make changes so that it was more realistic but from what I saw in a video by Jim Gem of Cypress Point I would say it is still ridiculous. Check out his second shot on hole 1. He is 113 yards from the hole and about 18 feet below the pin. He pitches the ball using an 8 iron to within 15 feet of the hole. A PGA pro would be taking a full swing with a wedge to get that kind of distance and ball flight. Anyway, I stopped watching at that point.

Yeah, pretty weird how that happens in real life huh?
Not to the point that you can’t see what you’re doing!

I don’t know why they didn’t make the full shots similar to the pitch shot, where partial shots are possible? The pitch shot swing is much slower allowing partial shots. It’s almost impossible to do that with a full shot because the backswing is prohibitively fast.
Putting can be frustrating at times because the backswing doesn’t mirror the stick movement.

One thing that really annoys me about the so called best designers at TGC is this ridiculous oversized grass they insist on planting, i don't give a shit how it makes their course pop from a distance. Once you are up close or hitting from the stuff its plain stupid, this pic is from a designer that has a design included in the career mode roster... Just terrible.

I only use the pitch shot with LW & GW. Most of the time any shot over that yardage I just use a full wedge .

In my limited testing so far, this has been the biggest thing I've noticed and **absolutely hated**
It ruins the whole experience for me.
I don't understand how they could have put so much work in on so many other areas but left the short game basically unchanged (and awful)

Interested in reading your opinion on graphics improvements, especially the new textures and 3d grass variations. One thing I disliked in TGC up to this point has been the perfect carpet look to everything, from screenshots and videos I've seen 2K21 appears to have changed that somewhat and improved it's graphics. Your thoughts?

They have a handful of new textures that are better, not diverse enough though but at least they look a bit more realistic.

Agreed DoGgs.
I've turned off everything and using the book only. I'm playing at Legend - but without tempo.
No green grids as well. The green reading 'roam' button (Y on Xbox) lets you rotate right around the putt like a clock at any height. The very low is perfect for reading the break. I'm building an instinct for how far to backswing on putts and it's starting to work well. Short putts (5 to 10 feet are difficult for me mainly because I'm finding it hard to get the line straight. (I've left the swing line on for now. I'm still getting used to using a thumbstick.))
I'm only pitching around the greens and the instinct is coming similar to putts.
Overall this method is rewarding and immersive. I feel like I'm playing golf and not reading data all the time. I'm averaging 16 over after two rounds but it's the short putting that's killing me.

Yep, they do look better and there's some more color variance.
I wish there were more options with things like the mowing pattern, though. I also don't understand why you can't have a specific tee box texture.

Yeh legend is pretty easy with no tempo, tour pro at PG with a controller is different gravy, i appreciate that swing even more now, I'd love to see the 2K21 regulars have a crack at PG tour pro, they would be shocked, it would send them scurrying back sharpish.
Doggs,
How do you find Legend with tempo?
With the swing timing off you are disabling the hook and slice of the swing so there is no fast, perfect, slow. So it is basically how straight you can swing the thumbstick. so even Legend will be easier.

From what I gather TGCC is not going to allow swing timing to be off and most Societies will do the same so I wouldn't recommend anybody use it as it will eventually when they start it will disallow your round when you finish. I don't know why it was added to the game as it really only allows for a straight shot.
