I’m seeing reports of inconsistent results out of the tempo based on frame rate…

It doesn’t sound very “fun” to have the swing be a crapshoot depending on how a particular course is performing on your system.

The beauty of the game is there is so much customization it's endless. I just played in a Society that was Pro with with a bunch of settings turned off and it was great fun and what was even better was over par was leading the event. So many options and the swing can be going great and one bad shot and it can make it to south real quick and then you have to hang on and that is exactly how real golf is. I have played many rounds IRL golf where I was cruising and one bad shot sent it spiralling and vice versa where one good shot turned my round around. Is it perfect hell no but it's better than seeing a leaderboard where the leader is 60 under par. Give it whorl you might like it.

I appreciate your enthusiasm but I’m not buying it for now.
When there is a sale, I’ll see where it’s at then.

They need to decouple swing variation from frame rate swings.

The tempo swing is not based on any sort of reality. I'd get a 'Very Slow' message and I'd whip the downswing like lightning and it says 'Slow'. I'd whip it through again at the speed of light and it would say 'Very Slow'.  It's sort of crazy stupid. No-one swings like that. It's certainly no fun whipping the thumb stick like that. (With respect to those guys who are enjoying it.)  I'm playing on an Xbox if that means anything.

 

Anyway, I'm playing Legend without tempo and I'm playing the Korn Chip Tour or whatever it is and shot 80 in my first round with plenty of distance aids and grid. I'll admit it's my first time playing seriously with a controller but there wasn't anything easy about it with a bit of wind and fast greens. Drives are straightish but I didn't do better tha 50% FIR or GIR. I find it a very good test without the tempo stupidity factor blighting your round. We want to play like decent golfers not mugs. Don't we?

 

I'm liking Career mode. Never done it before. Keeps me coming back.

 

But to be honest Buck. It's not that great a game for 2020 (for a number of reasons) in my absolutely honest opinion. FFS. For one thing can't someone make an avatar that doesn't look like some 80s TV cartoon character?

I wish the swing was slower and in real time, which would make partial and ‘feel’ shots more enjoyable and give the shot calibration more meaning.

I find the shadows and especially shots into the sun too dark. Unlike PG, there doesn’t seem to be anyway of changing the colours or brightness. One of the courses I played was far too colour saturated making it look a bit cartoony!
At the moment I’m playing on Pro, with shot timing on, as it’s too easy to hit straight shots with it off, even when set to ‘Legend’. 
Shot timing is strange. Sometimes, I’ve added a slight pause at the top of the swing, which gave me a ‘Perfect’, at other times it will show a ‘Slow’ tempo, so it’s difficult to gauge what the game requires.

Overall though, the game isn’t bad. I’ve just played at the Q school but just missed out on getting my card. The experience was enjoyable enough. Even the commentary wasn’t too bad.

DoGgz he is fine and posting over at digital sports page. He is playing Xbox One version as he did with TGC 2019 and has a Society there. I played in his Xbox Society in last game and still checkout his page out daily.

Something that helped me with the tempo...turn off the tempo report box in hud, you get so obsessed with the bloody thing, i seem to be hitting better tempos now its out of site.  I find it strange though that off the tee i'm totally fine but approach and pitching i'm hitting fasts and slows much more, especially pitch shots.

Just discovered something which is helping me to be straighter on full shots either from the tee or the FW.

I pull back on the stick and hold it there. The vertical marker continues to move to the left for a couple of seconds. When that marker comes to a stop I push the stick forward for the downswing. No idea why it works really. Can only guess that those two seconds let you relax a bit. Also when pushing forward I'm doing so in an more leisurely movement.

I turned off the commentators. They just got old for me after a while. May turn off the music and cut scenes too. Not sure if I can do that yet.

I have backed off to Pro-Am and turned off some aids and still hitting balls all over by not as bad. Very tough with the stock clubs to score on longer courses and played Conservatory which is over 7400 yards at this level and still only managed 74. Just a tough game and at Master forget it. The struggle is real.

Something  that helps is buying clubs to replace the default set. I'm using the next up HBS D, stock 4W & 3H, bought the Taylor Made Sim 3W & P790 irons and Wilson Staff wedges. Have 10-14yds between every club.

Just finished a quick course build if anyone fancies giving it a whirl...its a bit scary with that tempo to worry about ( plenty of water )  i'm a sadist

On pro am level with downswing tempo turned off. I've been on the PGA Toiur for a few days and been crap. Tonight though finished T5 at Riviera with 90% FIR and 66% GIR. Must be my new "pause" swing :-).

Been back at Pro level and hitting about 65% fairways and 45% greens and playing half decent and still have tempo on. With it off you loose distance and I need all the length I can get on these long courses. Was going well in our Society event but played last four holes 4 over to finish the same but happy with my play. Kind of nice to see an event with even par leading after first round and a few good society that lock the level in to to Pro or Pro Am and very good looking leaderboard. The 2K21 Society allows any swing and beginning level guys shoot 20 under and pound their chest but about 1200 players in current event. Another good society is the Apexhound as it plays tough but lots of fun.

Pretty easy, we use the Private match, give it a name & password, then just send invite.
