I hope to release this week a beta. Issue is I'm working on a best practices sort of presentation. I want uniform planting but I'm being limited by the mesh vertices. I would like this all to occur without UV unwrap to make it easier for the community to convert courses.

I just need a little time to read through the developer forum or send him a message.

Right....UV unwrap is always a biiiig bummer ...

BTW here are my actual settings...

Both in "One Texture" Mode, with texture atlas used for more variation in the blades.

(I'm not sure, for safety reasons i set one density mode to value based and on the other material to texture density even if i don't use a texture so for my understanding they have different shader variants. I'm not sure if i would set the exactly same modes (variants) for both short and long grass, would changing a setting in lets say short grass not also affect the long grass? I was thinking you can't use the same shader twice with different settings... )

I think the StixGames shader is probably not the only one which should work. I think some time ago i tried a free one which seemed to work more or less. Maybe also this one may work for example but it's not the cheapest.

Thanks for all the info! You have definitely got some positive attention here ;).

I don't understand much of this yet, but I'm definitely interested. 3D grass and a good overlay image is a good combination to build courses.

You never know ;). I have many projects on going at the moment, but most of them are in the very beginning. 3D grass would be a nice feature.

I'm glad that the grass is planted on the mesh because I try to cover my whole course terrain with mesh. I don't draw the main terrain in my new projects. Seems to do good for FPS.

I really appreciate the kind words! Definitely helps keeping on with this CF-second-life...

But these are really sweetspots which i take screenshots of. Still there are enough areas which doesn't shine. Maybe i should also make a post and show examples of these. I think the added atmosphere helps a little to focus more on the nicer parts. I'm not 100% sure, but i also changed the "smoothness" setting in the shader from 1 to 0.4-0.5 and i have the feeling it smoothed the heavy contrast out a little.

But from the playability aspect, there are still 8 holes to layout and every hole will also need some elevation corrections especially on the greens and bunkers. It's still far away from a beta stage. I couldn't get this lidar to match pixel-exactly the overlay so nearly everywhere some adjustments are needed. But it's still a joy to work "on" lidar data and the overlay and i can not thank jt83 and DP enough to share this playground and their knowledge. Just to name a few of these great CF survivors...

Anyway, i will share at least a few holes before beta stage. I'm definitely not the fastest around here and i really can't guess how long all this will take to finish this course.
